Premier League Football 25/26

Enjoy Barca, a fabulous away trip.
I went there back in ‘97 - a memorable trip even if we did lose 1:0. A young Aaron Hughes made his debut that game, some place for a debut.

We probably had a drink in the same bar! It’s a shame this time that the capacity will be much reduced. Currently about 46,000, due to the work being undertaken; half that when we were there in ‘97. Our allocation this time only about 2,000. On sale tomorrow.

3 goals yesterday from a total of 2 yards, The Modern game is so poor refs allowing all in wrestling at corners. Get a grip please PL and do something.

‘How can football’s lawmakers fix the corner chaos?’ At last it’s being acknowledged. Just needs refs to book the aggressors. Do they have the bottle?

Seven of Liverpool’s last nine goals have come from set pieces and five of those seven where from corners. In the game against West Ham 4 of the 7 goals scored where from corners 3 by Liverpool and 1 by West Ham but of course it is much more interesting to blame the dreaded Arsenal. So @DUUH there where actually 8 goals from a total of 2 yards out.

Set piece top 3 scorers are

Arsenal 19
Newcastle 14
Man U. 13
Spurs 13
Chelsea 13
Bournemouth 13
Leeds 13

Erm, your figures back up what we are saying…

Add to it your usual Rugby tactics, you ain’t got a leg to stand on.

Is this a variant of Spot The Ball?

I believe they were knocked into the stands by some ‘robust’ Arsenal defence.

Here’s another…

Apparently it’s been agreed that Chelsea should have had a penalty after all. So that’s alright then!

Though not sure if it’s for Rice’s foul, Rice’s handball or Joao Pedro’s shirt being grabbed to haul him about a bit…

It’s all rather embarrassing.

It’s a sad time for football.

It does resemble Mark Rocco v Marty Jones

A bit of a nothing first 60 minutes tonight under the lights at Elland Road, with the game punctuated by endless free kicks, and The Mighty Whites, for some reason, abandoning their usual tactics, and going for aimless long balls up the middle.

Things improved with the introduction of Dan James and Wee Willie Gnonto, and we reverted to our usual wide balls into the box style.

Results elsewhere over the next couple of days will be interesting, but tonight’s match was a poor performance, and is one probably best forgotten.

M.O.T.

Agreed by who? I would have thought Chelsea’s time would be much better spent working out why they cannot beat Arsenal, at home or away, in the league or in the cup. Chelsea have not beaten Arsenal since August 2021 and you have to go back another 3 years to August 2018 to find the last time they beat Arsenal at Stamford Bridge.

We are not the first team accused of boring football and we certainly won’t be tha last.

The following is taken from a 2013 article titled ‘Just How Boring Are Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea?’ written after the match between Chelsea and Man U in August 2013.

‘Often remembered for his pragmatic tactics as much as his victories, the Chelsea manager’s stifling approach was blamed for turning what was the most anticipated fixture of the Premier League so far into a test in endurance for viewers – the entire match featured one shot on target from inside the area.’

An old problem reappears - how to break down a well organised team with zero interest in playing football. The cheating was off the scale tonight. Refs let folk roll around whenever they decide to break up play. The choreographed team talk at 18 minutes was ironic given Saturday’s water break at roughly the same time. Ref just watched it happen. We missed out on a goal by the length of a toe cap. They scored one on the back of a subjective decision which looked debatable on the screen in the ground. In the end we didn’t do enough and I feel Farke was too slow to change things tonight. Gnonto & James made a difference. So a horrible night which hopefully will do one thing, convince players and fans we are far from safe. Next game at Old Trafford (could mean 3 defeats on the bounce) where new manager bounce is in full swing. Hopefully Farke rests the maximum number of players v Norwich. Lads looked tired after Saturday’s game v City. We need points not a place in the hat, as nice as that would be. We grind on. Struck me the Geordies might recognise the Makems we played tonight. Effective but horrible to watch. At times like this we get all misty eyed and think about Pablo Hernandez. We don’t have one.

Edit: Palace next up not Mancs.

Easy, send the aggressors off for 15 minutes.

If you suddenly lose two or three players & have to play against eleven for a few minutes you won’t misbehave again for a while.

Forget net spend it’s a flawed metric for one it doesn’t include salaries so just looking at the amount spent on transfers over the past 6 years Tottenham have spent more than Arsenal one team are on their third manager this year and are flirting with relegation for the second year running.

The other is going for the Premier League title, finished unbeaten in the Champions League first round, are in the final of the league cup and the 6th round of the FA Cup now that is truly embarrassing.

Sorry forgot to mention one are a bit too physical during and score too many goals from corner kicks.
