ProAc Response DT8 opinion?

Hello. Who has tested these speakers? The main question is, how good do they sound at low volume levels? I usually listen to music quietly and the nuances at low sound pressure levels are very important

I see positive reviews of these acoustic systems, such. Review: ProAc Response DT8 loudspeakers – the kings of dynamics? , but I can’t find any data on the sound at low volumes

Thank you very much

I’m all for putting electronics before speakers in terms of priority, but your Diablo is a pretty high end amplifier and the DT8s are rather modest. I wonder what’s made you think of them? On the face of it, something like ProAc’s excellent K6 would be a much better match.

When choosing speakers it’s always a good idea to try them at home before you buy. Every room is different and while someone may think speaker X is great at low volume, you may not.

Had had these for four years with a Supernait 3/Hicap DR/ND5XS2/Chord Qutest. Very good speakers for the money. They are easy to drive and also sounds well at low volume. Naim comes more alive when playing from a bit higher volume so it was the Supernait that came alive more at higher volume but it was not the speaker’s that caused this.

Agree. The amp seems to be a very high end amp and indeed deserves something better than the DT8’s.

I agree… If the size of the DT8’s is OK, then I’d suggest D48R would be appropriate. And I owned a pair of them at one time and they sound great at lowish volumes. And since I’m sure you’ll ask I sold them because I moved to a much smaller space not because of performance.

If looking at proac, you need to try the models with ribbon tweeters; eg the top 3 in the response range 20/30/48 are available with ribbons or domed tweeters. I preferred the ribbons.

My dealer recommendation at the time was the DT8 but I went with the D2R’s for my smaller space. I don’t think you can go wrong with the DT8 but based off your amplification as HH mentioned, if you can stretch for the D30R or higher I think you’ll be even more impressed.

Another :+1: for Proacs with ribbon tweeters - utterly addictive

Ribbons not sweating currently at low volumes, 50dB @1m approximately. Not losing any detail with zero harshness, difficult task for most ribbons, not for the ProAcs though…

I swear we should start a “Show us your Proac’s” thread lol

Good speakers don’t have to be large. ( ime)

I had DT8’s with a supernait 2 and fine for a couple of years until I found out differently at a dealers when listening to an upgrade to my lp12. Kudos or Neat’s it had to be for me, just more of everything bass treble but mostly depth and weight. Interesting what the supernait could do when asked. My next upgrade was the supernait to a 282/250, but my recollection is the speakers made the most improvement due I believe not least because of their physical mass being double that of the DT8’s, So is size and weight important in speaker choice? Dare I say from experience it is

My guess would depend on the design of the speaker and how efficient they are. Other than from time to time raising the volume level. it is set slightly past the 1/4 to nine level or slightly below while talking.

My first set of speakers were a pair of ProAc D2D’s. I have been using the ProAC D30RS speakers for a few years and love the sound.

My System, My Room, My ears… You really should demonstrate speakers in your own room environment and choose what works best for you.

With your amp, I would be afflicted if you cannot afford Proac K1, 3, 6 or 6 Signature according to your room size. I have Proac K3 and Proac K1 on 2 different systems. I bet they are a terrible match with Diablo 333 and will be magnificent whatever volume you listen to them.

You are my hero! K1 and K3’s! Wow.

DT8 is ProAc’s entry-level tower speaker. It’s not a bad speaker, but your Diablo deserves better.

D30RS at a minimum… K series, depending on the room would be my choice.

do agree and along with that the amp and speakers should match and as equally important is that the speakers fit the room.
