Problems with Tidal

Who else is having problems with Tidal? Since about 2 hours ago today, there have been constant interruptions during playback.

I live in Germany.

Fine here in UK, I’ve had music on in office all morning with zero issues.

Also nothing on DownDetector.

There might be something up, but intermittent.

Was listening to an album, and during a track switch it moved to the last tune on album and stopped.

Then, just now, a user playlist stopped halfway through, which was odd…

(Note this is not on naim kit)

I get this occasionally. I have good Wi-Fi, but I do connect by Wi-Fi, not Ethernet.

I’ve experienced this recently too.

Yes, same here, intermittent. It depends on the problem, IME:

  1. Play button not working - intermittent and random timing.
  2. Tidal dropping off completely from connection and having to re-connect to Naim device (through Tidal Connect) - intermittent and random timing. Often at the end of a track or when switching playlists or albums.
  3. Tidal playing and maintains connection but stops playing, for 10, sometimes 30-40 seconds before resuming - intermittent and usually Friday and Saturday 7pm to Midnight.

I’ve spent 6 months talking to my ISP and Tidal. The best I can offer is that some of the issues seem to be related to the CDN (Content Delivery Network) and often therefore location dependent. I’ve been advised by Tidal and ISP to try to set my connecting device (iPhone) using an VPN to Singapore (I’m based in Thailand) to improve the CDN issue. Or better still place a VPN over the entire internet connection for the Naim streamer. I’ve tried the former and it seems to help (even though the Naim connects without the VPN). I haven’t resorted to the latter offered solution yet.

You could experiment with a VPN by setting to locations where Tidal and ISP may have better CDN solutions to see if this improves things.
