Just wanted to do a shout out to Ken and John at ProMusica. They hear things like I do. John made a powerstrip for me, which powered by a powerline makes my system sing!
I got one from him about 6-7 years ago - and this is the second much improved version. Heavy, Solid, No Fuss. The only other powerstrip I would use as an upgrade to the Wiremold.
The Nordost stuff just makes a mess of things - and then you’re cleaning up the mess by going up the powercable chain, or by deploying QK1s and QK2s. The QB8 MKIII was very enjoyable (powered by the Red Dawn) and supported by the qK1s and QK2s. A sheen of HiFiness but sounded more like a system at Magnolia than a Naim system. Going up from Ree Dawn to Valhalla 2 made it just too weird - and cost me three months of cable swapping - so I’m glad I’m out of that mode now.
The ProMusica sounds more raw and real. It sounds imho the way it’s supposed to, and I’d call it the signature naim experience.
What fun though - with the change of a powerstrip - one can have a totally different experience….
anyway - If you’re in the US this is the only sensible upgrade to the Wiremold.
And the guys live and breath naim - almost to a fault..
my experience with them both 6-7 years ago and now had been wonderful! They’ve not slowed down or lost their passion for helping an audio guy out.
Heavy duty hospital grade outlets, 10 or 12 awg wiring, neutral and live are star wired from iec, grounding schema ensure eddies and other currents and emf interference gets shunted to ground without any tricks. The chasis is part of grounding system and is super heavy metal again for EMF and RMI rejection.
And yes - maybe they should a less stark color.
It’s modeled after the CableProNana but sounds better - better outlets, better grounding, better wiring, soldering, heavier chassis etc.
Also using their powercable to power the farad switch and will try it next on the uniticore.
I actually sold off my audience pdc 7 years ago when i replaced it with their powerstrip - and this is a much improved version now.
The earthing is interesting - since its not star earthed - but a) star earthing didnt work well in the US for some reason (and the wiremold doesnt do star earthing either), and b) John actually made a change to the wiremold, sent it to the manufacturer - and the manufacturer incorporated that change into their design - they have a cable that ties the chassis into the IEC earth, just like this model.
Ken and John were my introduction to Naim in the mid 80’s. Fond memories of their first shop on Clark Street in a garden space below street level grade. The perfect space to audition Naim speakers due to the thick stone walls. They certainly have supported the brand over the years with excellent service and no nonsense recommendations. Great guys!
I’m not sure - I paid a bunch of money for several things and didnt ask for prices…
I did hear from another dealer (Venice audio in LA) that it was $900 and he was thinking of buying one for an audition, but the current price might be higher or lower.
The way I look at it - it’s the price for not having to try out a bazillion sockets, earthing arrangement etc.. so I think its money well spent.
