That’s what they cost, auction or not. Other thing is to sell your other gear first then get one.
Skip the XPS and go straight for the 555DR, as Dan mentioned this opens the door for a potential upgrade to the ND555.
One thing, the 555 doesn’t come with a burndy as standard this will need to factored in.
Ah, that I did not know…that may well price me out of things today then. My fault for splashing my cash on other things the last few days
I’m going to start listing what I need to move on. You never know, may get a quick sale.
S-XPS burndy come up for sale used.
We got ours new from dealer with usual discount.
One sold on eBay last week for £249.
S-XPS cable new approx £520, used price hard to say.
I bought an S XPS cable used to sell my XPS2 more easily. I seem to remember I shipped the CDS2 just before with the original XPS2.
They don’t come up often.
When I owned the 272 / XP5XS I decided to upgrade to a 555DR but kept the S-XPS that came with the XP5XS, sold the XP5XS to a dealer who didn’t seem that bothered, I guess they had a box full of these burndies.
8 hours to go…
I paid a little over £1,200 with a 3m Classic Plus cable. Felt like a fair price.
It’s an older non DR version.
Good luck! You can do it!
Ah, I mis-read your message. Yes, I have seen that one but as it is quite old and non-DR I decided against it as I would need to have it serviced etc. Thanks for pointing it out though, I appreciate it.
The 555PSDR will give you a powerline cable too. Then you are only missing one for Supercap DR.
If Puritan 156 doesn’t work trip to your dealer or a discussion with them to see what they can do.
I have tried 500PSDR on the mains direct again today. And it buzzes. Back in to Puritan 156 and all quiet again.
You never know the Puritan may solve Supercap DR hum 2nd time round. I have electricity pylons very close by too.
Thanks Dan, I am hoping it will; but I think it might be wishful thinking. No harm in trying though and it is a quality unit as you have mentioned so I can easily get my money back now there are no more ebay fees
Puritan may improve your sound, even if it doean’t cure the problem. I think you may just have a noisy transformer on the Supercap DR. If Puritan 156 doen’t cure it I don’t think it’s your mains causing it. Puritan makes all my transformers silent.
It’s bot just that the Puritan cleans up alot of the crap and fuzziness. Some say that it reduces dynamics of the system with a power conditioner. I can honestly say I am not finding that.
Yep, the guy who runs Puritan and designed it says the objective was to have zero impact on the sound. I would not have purchased it otherwise, I think Naim know what they are doing when they say steer clear of mains conditioners and filtering etc.
I’m going to get the SCDR serviced next month regardless as if I ever do upgrade I would not feel right selling it knowing it might not be quite right.
A service won’t include transformer change out. When you get it serviced you need to specify the problem. It may need a replacement transformer to rectify noise. A service will not factor that in. They charge extra for repair service. That’s if you use Naim. Class A maybe able to sort it with quicker turn around. Speak to Darran. I have used his servicing many times. See what he says. If prebooked, turnaround within a week. He will replace caps and serviceable components as Naim would.
I just emailed them. Thanks for the recommendation
The inlet didn’t make a noticeable audible difference. That said, the Furutech FI-33 NCF inlet is much better quality, as it should be given the cost. Bear in mind you have to machine the steel front panel to fit as it needs a larger hole (straightforward with a Dremel).
Furutech FI-1363R NCF UK Mains Plug 90 Degree, not the FI-52 NCF IEC Connector on the Classic+ Puritan. Decided to try a non-Puritan power cable upgrade first (managed to pick up Nordost at a decent price).
