QNAP Issues

No problem putting in new RAM and putting drives back in and turning on. Will work fine as long as you have the correct memory.
Just remember which drive is bay 1 and bay 2 e.t.c

Thanks for that.
I have replaced the memory card, unfortunately I was going to add another 4GB but the pins holding fell out, so I just replaced the 4GB
The NAS works fine (as before) I still cannot use FileStation or HBS3 which I like.
I still have an open case with QNAP, it just drags on.
I THINK it is a software issue, but not sure.
As I said to them I do not wish to buy a new NAS and have the same issue.
I will let you know how I get on, could be another week though !?

Are you able to get your data off the drives, and then perform a full factory reset on the NAS and setup as new?
You should definitely be able to use Filestation. The fact you cannot suggest a problem but it may not be hardware related. Doing the factory reset first will remove a bad software install as the potential problem.

NAS are like a computer OS and sometimes you just need to do latest firmware update, then hard reset and setup as a new NAS.

Hi - I think you are right, but have got a ‘Helpdesk’ job going on with QNAP at the moment, so will see what they say (hopefully Monday) first.
They did log on to my PC prior to changing the memory card and try to update the firmware which stuck at 20%, I suggested to them perhaps a memory card issue, they agreed it could be. Now changed the memory card, but possibly need to re-run firmware update again, or as you say reset
Will let you know how I get on, thank you for your interest.

I can use File Explorer to add/delete/ transfer data, and have backups, so not too worried, would just like it fixed! I had a system going and it has been interupted !

Getting stuck on 20% of the firmware update suggests to me you probably have a bad memory module.

All these issues were occurring before you put in the 2nd memory module? Then remove the original module, and just keep newer one.
Try firmware update again.
If it occurs again, swap the memory module to the other slot. Try again.
If it occurs again, you probably have a mainboard failure and it needs to go back to QNAP,

It would be very bad luck if you had 2 bad QNAP nas in a row.
I have used about 15 of them (for myself and for clients) and only had one fail after it was running for 5 years straight.
Drive failures are a different story, had a few of those over the years…
