Qobuz app - recent release (24 July 2024) is it bad?

I’m a bit perturbed by release notes suggesting ‘My Qobuz and Offline Library merge to become Library’ so haven’t upgraded.

Have already been frustrated for some time by streaming tracks automatically being added to the Offline Library when you play a Qobuz playlist (turn it off and next update re-enables) .

I regularly search the offline library to play albums in the car or the garden on a Bluetooth speaker - some reviews suggest you lose the ability to play a downloaded complete album and can only play by artist with I assume means amalgamanted tracks from any sources/playlists/albums.

I generally want to play an Album not a curated list of Artist tracks.

Please tell me it ain’t so!

Qobuz subscription renewing or potentially not in September.

Hi AC
I thought it was a disaster when it auto updated on my iPhone on release.
All my playlists appeared to have vanished and the new look library was quite troubling.
However, the playlists updated later that morning and I am getting used to the new library processes.
Everything appears to work in much the same way, but a few usage methods are slightly different.
It’s not BAD so much as different.
YMMV
Simon
PS. Good luck😉

Thanks - there was a review from someone who had many playlists suggesting this had just created dozens more individual artists and made it difficult if not impossible to search for or use those playlists or to find actual whole albums. Inability to play a specific album would be a game changer for me and I hope that’s not the case.

The main reason I cancelled Roon wa them merging Qobuz purchases with the ‘general library’.

I haven’t any purchased Qobuz items so can’t speak to that, but playing individual albums either via artist selection or from saved favourites has not been a problem at all.

Thanks, suspect it’s not as bad as it sounds but I hate change!

The advantage of the offline library for me was that it was ‘historical’ in the sense that recently downloaded tracks (Qobuz playlists played mostly) or purchased/streamed downloaded albums were there such that I’d find a recently downloaded album quickly by scrolling but it would take more scrolling for something downloaded a few years ago.

If there’s a good search it may be better than scrolling but integration with CarPlay is also a factor and how that works.

It looks like this:

If you want to see downloaded or purchased, scroll the menu to the left:

And select

If you want a “by artist” view, select that at the top:

Thanks for posting that.

Not a particularly nice interface update in the Artists section. I hate all these circular icons used by Apple/Micorosft - this seems ot follow suit unless it was always there and I didn’t notice. In the releases section there used to be full cover artwork for tracks/albums you’d downloaded - wonder if that’s gone.

Is there a dark mode type setting?

Artists is either large or small circles. Mode on an iPhone is either light or dark.

Yes I found it a bit frustrating.

I download content to my iPhone for use when travelling but I don’t necessarily mark these as favourites as I have bought the content elsewhere and not necessarily from Qobuz and so don’t need to see them in my favourites list on the Naim app.

The library doesn’t show these items. It only appears to show favourites and items purchased from Qobuz. They were still downloaded but I had to go into each one and mark it as a favourite for it to appear in the library. Also, these items, although downloaded, don’t show with a ‘downloaded’ tick.

It’s workable but quite boring admin to have to go and do.

I do have an alternative on my iPhone of the Foobar2000 app where I can use my own music files on the phone. However, whilst functionally good, I’d say the sound quality is not quite up to the standard from the Qobuz app.

Anyone know of any good alternatives on an iPhone? I found getting your own music files to work in Apple Music quite painful. It does seem a little unnecessary for me to continue with a subscription to Qobuz though as I download very little hires any more and there are other ways I can listen to new music.

You can choose “downloaded” as a filter in the library view, and see everything in your iPhone.

Thanks I can see that now although there doesn’t seem to be any option to sort by Artist then which is a backward step for me.

I guess it depends on your usage but for me it’s all a bit messy and certainly not an upgrade from a usability point of view.

If you click on the ‘Order’ which is defaulted to Recently Added, you can switch to Alphabetical

Yes but that’s Alphabetical by Album Title not by Artist?

And also even selecting ‘Downloaded’ at the very top otherwise unfiltered Library level still omits some downloaded releases.

Downloaded by artist; select both at the top:
Remember that “downloaded” means “what’s in my iPhone right now”

But once in this view, when you select the artist you see more than you’re keeping in the phone, what’s available offline is ticked.

As I said, far less useful than previously but I guess that’s progress.

I really don’t understand why companies radically change software often to the annoyance of long-term customers. They did the same with the web downloads and tar file system.

don’t get me started on ms windows

Does anyone use it via CarPlay ?

It’s been pretty slow and not been that intuitive for ages - any improvements or retrograde steps primarily when wanting to listen to downloaded albums?
