Qobuz Connect is Coming

So just checked and neither my Innuos Zen Mini3 nor Auralic Vega S1 DAC/Streamer have ChromeCast capabilities, (Just Airplay2 - which I don’t like to use) Now I know why I never used chromecast

Have you tried Tidal connect, sweetie ?

No, I changed to Qobuz when they brought out hi-res streaming.

Beta software?! Not a chance. I get frustrated enough with official releases. :grinning:

That was why I’ve never used Chromecast. I did wonder from the discussion up thread if that had now changed, but it would appear not so. A shame and a good argument for Connect apps.

Roger

Didn’t you know Qobuz has more HiRes content …and the fact that Qobuz weren’t responsible for a failed attempt (MQA) to control music rights should probably be factored in to decisions.

I know.
I asked Mike to see if he tried Tidal Connect, if it’s different, better, or more friendly vs the Tidal on Naim app.
Personally I would rather choose Tidal, because the catalog is bigger and my music is more represented there. And now you have more and more hires.
But I stream only locally from my Melco, mostly albums bought on Bandcamp.

The naim app doesn’t provide access to many of the standard Tidal playlists such as “Daily discovery”. The Tidal app and Connect are essential really.

Plus search, browsing, related artists, navigation in general are all much slicker and easier in the Tidal app. It’s a modern responsive GUI.

Suspect what we prefer is largely down to how we play/discover music.

I don’t really use playlist, I generally play albums and know pretty much what I want to play at the time so the Naim app with a search is generally fine for that - if I used other features I’d possibly be keen for Qobuz Connect to appear - if and when it does then I’ll give it a whirl.

MQA was a major annoyance with Tidal when I tried it along with pushing genres I don’t enjoy much. Also hated the fact I was on the higher tier and they decided to offer 10% of my subscription to the top played artists each month - these were often bigger mainstream bands and I’d already purchased their CDs/vinyl so would have preferred to nominate where that 10% went to support new/newly discovered smaller bands not well established ones.

What i have to do. Annoying, but the naim app and Qobuz are poor friends.
I find searching anything on the naim app hard work.

Yes, but you can already use those apps and Chromecast? Connect just brings hapless play and higher resolution?

Apple devices here. Not sure that helps.

Tidal Connect is seamless across all bitrates.

And as above the Tidal app is streets ahead of the naim app in terms of usability and features.

I certainly hope not.

Several actually do all that. Innuos Sense is a good example.

Compared with Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect is infuriating:

  • no lockscreen controls
  • doesn’t persist session if app closed
  • instances of app (eg desktop and phone) totally unaware of each other

Hopefully Qobuz have gone the Spotify route not the Tidal route.

What is Qobuz connect and why do I need it?

I believe Qobuz are beginning to roll out Connect in beta form this month at least for certain manufacturers including Auralic and WiiM and in certain regions.

Roger

For the comparatively small cost, I would recommend it!

I used a WiiM (WiiM Plus?) as a “test” device to explore online streaming and was amazed at its capabilities vs cost!
(This was to feed an NDS and also an nDAC, out of curiosity)

From Qobuz:

« When you listen to Qobuz, the sound stream goes from our servers to your connected device. The connection is direct between the two. Conversely, when you select music from the Qobuz app and then send it to a playback device, the app acts as an intermediary.14 Feb. 2024«
