Well, its Friday, so Heaton update time.
Inevitable I suppose with the present cost of living, but still sad to hear that the Royal Train is to be decommissioned.
I went there when on holiday sometime in the late 80s. It was a fabulous museum. I have been to a few US railroad museums and heritage centres I think all of them have been excellent. I also travelled on the Grande Canyon Railway.
I can’t remember exactly where it was, somewhere in Arizona I think maybe California but we came across a railroad museum that had a tram collection and to our astonishment they had a single deck “boat” tram from Blackpool (in the UK)
It’s nothing short of stunning what some can do…
It is amazing and I’m looking forward to seeing it back out on the exhibition circuit.
Love the J50, both the loco and lowfit are very nicely weathered.

When would these date from?( The loco and wagon not the models)
In this livery and totem (design on the tank), it would be from the early 1950s. The real loco could have been built anytime between 1913 to 1939.
The wagon could be any time between 1950s to 1970s approximately.

Some very nice modelling on display.
Where’s Millicent street next on show Steve

Cheers Steve, it’s in the diary ![]()

Happy Birthday Steve, have a good one!

It would have been Steve Goodmans Birthday today 25/07/48, tragically he succumbed to leukemia in 1984 at the young age of 36
This is Arlo Guthrie’s version, with the Illinois Central Railroad
I like the song and the Illinois Central Railroad more. I have a around-the-room HO layout based on a corner of the Illinois Central system, featuring several locomotives and stock that is peculiar to it. Unusual railroad for the US, being a north/south line mainly. A fallen flag now but it had a long varied history as one of the oldest and longest lived class 1 railroads in the US from 1851 to the late 90s when Canadian National bought the railroad.
