This week’s update, enjoy.
Just out of interest, when does the podcaster expect to complete his build?
As far as I know, stage two is due to be exhibited later this year, but I will make enquiries.
Bus replacement service?
I hope not!, can’t wait to see this at a show.
I’m wondering how it will get transported. How many artics! It must surely be worthy of its own dedicated display location by now, like Miniatur Wunderland
Don’t quote me on this, but the smaller original layout, if I remember correctly needed 3 artics and took a couple of days of set up, you’re right, ideally it needs its own display location, Simon will say its already got one, where it is, but its not open to the public.
I would hope it has a secure future, too many great layouts end up in landfill.
This is my childhood train. Dad cleared the attic so I got it back ![]()
It’s Maerklin, a German brand for which I don’t know if it is known in the Anglo Saxon world.
Yes Märklin has its known in the UK was a pioneer in creating scale models in HO scale, classed as a premium brand it still produces C track with the middle conductor as per the central pickup on your model, models without the central pickup, for normal 2 rail operation come under the Trix label.
Märklin also produce Gauge 1 models = 10mm to the foot
Z gauge = 1.36mm to the foot
& LGB = 13.6mm to the foot
N gauge comes under the Minitrix label = 2mm to the foot (depending if you model English or European)
Its a bit of a minefield to be honest, do you have any more models.
OK, not all railway modelling, the lifeboat is my “what to do when it’s too hot to continue white metal soldering” contribution. My wife said the kit would give me a bit of a challenge compared to locomotives - actually it was very enjoyable and a good kit, all be it the paint provided is naff. Also I cheated by using plastic weld, but it was a fun project during the 34 deg C period.
Just to keep the thread on track….my 2-8-0 Austerity is coming on a bit as well.
@Cmax think you’ll like this. I was out at Shed 24 on my pushbike today and saw (to me at least) the strangest thing. A railway enthusiast bought a Signal - you can see it on the right here (No. 28). The yellow thing is apparently the front of a diesel, the rest is is in someone’s garden in Poulton-Le-Fylde waiting to be shipped to Hellifield when the interested parties work out how to move it.
You might also like the small layout here.
The upstairs rooms at the station are layed out like the Yorkshire Sleeper and you can stay overnight subject of course to availability. There’s also a reading room, lots of books and mags for sale plus other memorabilia.
Hope you find this of interest.
Thank you for posting, the front is off a class 37, in fact the number is located in right hand corner 37704. This a place I should definitely add to my visit list, love the layout as well.
Lots of interesting things on display ![]()
The WD is one of my favourite engines, and your build is coming along nicely, I know you said you were more interested in building than creating a layout, have you got somewhere to run and test it.
The Lifeboat is a very nice model as well, what scale is it ? Nothing wrong with building something different now and again.
Lovely - always wanted to go there…..I wouldn’t mind a signal either!
Slowly but surely - more for the winter really. I do have a bit f old track I can use but the DJH kit was quite old and from someone else and the motor shows its age. Probably salvaged from an old triangle loco - sounds terrible! I have a decent one for my next project.
The lifeboat is 1:72 - virtually OO gauge which surprised me when I put it next to the loco, it looks massive.
Got to ask what the next project is, loco wise.
BR Class 4 4-6-0. Choices driven by the locos I saw when living in Mansfield as a youngster. Will have to revert to SR Bullieds after that (if I’m still around!).
