I use a credit card as a payment card for most purchases. For years I have stuck with John Lewis out of (? misguided) loyalty. They are now making their card significantly less competitive in terms of rewards - you need to spend £5k to earn £5 of JL vouchers.
What other cards offer decent rewards? I have no interest in credit, simply payment. 
Maybe moneysupermarket or another similar site is the place to go for advice and comparisons?
I use Amex and get rewards but it isn’t accepted everywhere. Not too many gaps but you’d need a second card. I use it as much as I can because of the rewards but also excellent customer service with lost cards and attempted fraud in the past. Had it over 20 years. Most companies offer inducements for new customers that rapidly drop off of course.

Indeed I am married to the woman who looked affronted when Greenhalgh Bakery refused her payment until she realised that, yeah, the local equivalent of Greggs probably doesn’t take Amex

If I spent £5,000 on a credit card, I’ve been getting £50-£62.50 cashback for so many years, I’ve lost count.
Just Google cashback cards and find one that suits you.

Surely it’s £12.50 if you don’t spend at John Lewis, and £62.50 if you do. It makes sense if you shop at Waitrose.

Just received my notification from JL that the rewards for non Waitrose/ JL purchases are dropping from 1 point for every £4 spend to 1 point for every £10. 500 points equating to £5 reward. Purchases within the JL umbrella remain as before. Hence £5k spend for £5 ‘reward’ for purchases outside JL.

Ah. I was unaware, as our card is in Mrs HH’s name. Back in the day we’d get 3% interest on our current account up to £2,000. Now it’s nothing. Still, we got £100 which is probably better really. Tesco Clubcard points were brilliant and now they aren’t. We used to get 20% off National Trust Cottages when paid for using their credit card. That was stopped too. It seems to be the way of things.

Off topic but my most annoying occurrence of appalling incentive failure was when BA wiped all my airmiles. I had been building up a stockpile for years and had 000s
It’s possible they did email to warn me but I’m pretty good at emails…
I’ll never use BA now…

Sadly where I live there is very little choice indeed, none with rewards other than Amex, the rewards in terms of air miles and BA companion seats I haven’t managed to benefit from in past few years, and also unfortunately, but understandably, is not accepted by far too many to enable it to be a main creditcard.
Sadly, I can’t help wondering if the days of credit card rewards are more or less over.
25 years ago, I acquired my first widescreen TV entirely on the proceeds of rewards from one card. Wasn’t even difficult. Unimaginable now? It is to me.

I travel a lot for my work. Im writing this from a nuclear power staion near Busan, S.Korea.
I no longer use BA, since they changed their loyality scheme. What it has shown me, is that there are plenty of better and cheaper airlines. I can now fly business with China Eastern to Shanghai rather than premium economy with BA.
So thanks BA. You changing your scheme has allowed me to use other airlines, that are way better and cheaper.

Yes, but it’s now £650 a year to have one. I downgraded to a Gold card and got the first year FOC.

I am in the US, I use PayPal Credit/Debit cards, good customer service, safe, and good rewards.
