It’s been a while since we had a dedicated Reggae music thread so I’ll start one again.

This triggers an old memory. My parents decided that it was a good time for me to get a girlfriend at 19. They gave me the keys of their car and arranged some other teenagers to go on holiday with one specific girl in (their) mind.
She loved Reggae / R&B - especially Bob Marley and I loved Baroque music - especially Bach.
It was a very tough week. The girl has a nice family now and a top husband but we still cannot have a normal conversation. It has to clash!
Anyhow, I shall give Bob another listen perhaps its time to open up ![]()
For those with access to BBC iPlayer, Live at the Rainbow 1977 is currently available:
Did You reserve a B&B ( a Bob&Bach) ?
Hailing from Santander, Spain Roberto Sanchez aka Lone Ark. Brand new Reggae music for 2025. Roberto has also done excellent work with Linval Thompson and reworked some of the artists 1978 Channel One sessions that produced ’ I Love Marijuana’ record.
More Roberto Sanchez under the Lone Ark Riddim Force name a sampler set of dubs from his collaboration with Shanti Yalah from Cantabria they are cooking some excellent reggae music up in Northern Spain.
If you like early roots reggae and live close to Lewes, East Sussex the Cimarons are playing the
Con Club there on the 19th of this month unfortunately I’m away and can’t be there but I’m sure it will be excellent.
Roberto Sanchez the Spanish producer I’ve been heavily promoting on this thread has just recorded their new record ‘Harder Than Rock’ at his Lone Ark studio, Santander.
There is also a documentary film of the same name about the band’s 50 year history should be well worth searching out.
There’s a book there!

Well done enjoy them, vinyl is for playing. I know it’s difficult when these things can be priced so highly I have records listed on Discogs for hundreds of pounds that I play admittedly if I had records priced over £300 + that might be a different story.
The prices listed on Discogs are arbitrary though first you have to find someone prepared to pay for them which I guarantee will take time so just enjoy them and take very good care of them. I have a P8 too imo pound for pound the best value record player out there especially used.
Roberto Sanchez has done so much good modern reggae music. Usually sounds great aswell! Very good recommendation!
Yes like Prince Fatty Roberto Sanchez prides himself on producing sonically excellent music and both are students of the genre studying studio techniques and going to great lengths to source the right equipment.
Here’s an interesting video where Roberto discusses the mastering of Kaya and Exodus.
Haha, fantastic
Gonna get a Roberto Sanchez recording up on the turntable right now! ![]()
Another European Sound producing some great music over the past decade is Little Lion Sound from Geneva, Switzerland with a mixture of new and old, Jamaican and non Jamaican guest vocalists they have like Roberto Sanchez carried the torch for Reggae music when much of the homegrown Jamaican artists have become very Americanised with a heavy R&B and Rap influence.
Of course artists like Chronixx, Kabaka Pyramid and Protege etc are exceptions and make some grade A reggae music. Look out for Chronixx’s first Long Player since 2017’s Chronology called ‘Exile’ which is due out this Autumn.
Think I’m putting my head on a plate. Never did understand all the fuss about Bob Marley & never heard him live, although enjoy some reggae, such as Sly & Robbie , especially their interaction on those Island recordings eg backing Joe Cocker on his Sheffield Steel album in the 1980s.
As the highly rated Legend of Bob Marley tribute band were playing at a local theatre, went along to check what I had missed live….
Still don’t get it - it’s very effective, simple dance music, seems some UK studio musicians were added to Marleys original recordings & the theatre was full of waved smartphones & people jigging about - in fact a seated chap in front of me had an (edited) discussion with a dancer in front of him on the lines of having paid for a seat to see the show, not to view her ample rear, or words to that effect!
Perhaps we need a thread on waved phones & standing versus sitting in theatres?
For many including me Bob Marley’s message through his music is as important, if not more important than the music itself and so that is where the real attraction lies.
I bought this 7” today, crucial ![]()
btw, how do you link a yt video so you can see it in the thread. the way you do it?
Outside of Mr Marley I know very little about reggae so this is a great thread!
Thanks for starting!
