Removing sellotape adhesive residue from vinyl

While cleaning one of mrs deeg’s lps today I noticed some gunk on the lead-in groove which would not lift off using the rcm. A check of the inner slip cover revealed she has mended a split with sellotape and I’m thinking that with time some of the adhesive has contaminated the lp edge.
Any ideas on how to remove it as i dont think wd40 is a good idea nor is running a stylus through it when played.

If it’s genuine sellotape type of tape - i.e. not one of the more recent more plasticy types, then the glue is usually water soluble and can be removed by soaking for 30 minutes or so, then wiping with a soft cloth with a little detergent in the water.

Its probably 30 years old so think its the genuine original… thanks to the tip… will give it a go… :+1:

Theres not alot after the pass through the rcm so hopefully will lift with a good soak.

I would try isopropyl.

Yes, some cleaning fluid with perhaps a stronger Isopropyl alcohol concentration should do the trick here.

White spirit will dissolve it completely then wipe dry with absorbent kitchen paper. :+1:t2:
No it doesn’t effect the Vinyl.

Thanks for the tips peeps… an hour’s bathing the relevant section in some water and record cleaning solution has lifted the gunk and all is good. :+1:
