Repair nait xs2?

Hi, my 10-year old Nait XS2 amplifier needs a repair that would cost 470 euros. Apparently the amp has “a few defective transistors” (producing loud distortion which I hope didn’t blow my speakers.)

Any ideas on spending this kind of money on this amp? I thought the amp would serve me for 20 or 30 years, no such luck…

cheers

That does seem alot for a " few dodgy transistors ".
Was that a quote from Naim via your dealer?

They need servicing every 12-15 years or so.

Was that a quote from a Naim dealer?

Depends where you’re based as it would need to go to Naim HQ.

DG…

my dealer sent it to the importer in holland, the diagnosis came from the importer but I’m not sure who would do the repair.

I guess I’m fishing for similar experiences and how long the product worked after such a repair.

I believe it would be a waste not to get it repaired.

As you are in Holland, you only have the option of sending it to Naim.
However if you fancy a very short holiday to the UK, you could always get in touch with Class A in Sheffield and see if he would do the repair while you wait. I’m shure it would be much much less than 470 Euros. Plus you get to see a bit of the UK at the same time.

I’m not sure if class A does that amp
A resistor went on my xs and it got sent from class a to naim

I’m not shure why that would have happened. My best friend and i drove up to Sheffield many years ago after i had borrowed and damaged his XS2. Darren changed the the preamp board there and then and all was good. As far as i know, if he has the parts in stock he can and will do the job.
What he won’t do though is any repairs on CD decks or any on any Naim streamers.

the distributor in Holland is an official Naim repair point, but quite expensive.

I think the problem was changing components on a board rather than replacing a whole board.
The total cost for just replacing 2 resistors (20p?)was disproportionately expensive and more so as it went by courier to Sheffield then to Salisbury back to Sheffield then back to me! I paid about £400 six years ago and wasn’t pleased

Personally I would do it - 470 euros is not that much - especially since the Nait xs series are very good and it’s an almost guaranteed way to renewed satisfaction. You also could go for an upgrade, say an SuperNait 2 second hand but that does come with a sonic difference and may not work out well.

Mmmm, i can fully understand why wasn’t pleased

that’s what I’m thinking now, it would be hard to go back to a cheaper system after getting used to this one…
