Replacing Headphone ear cushions

The cushions on my AKG K550 have started to perish through the outer material sticking to their headphone stand, so I want to replace the cushions.

Trouble is when I do an internet search, instead of actual AKG replacements, of course I just get a plethora of Chinese made options at an ever decreasing price and I’ve no idea how these will feel in situ. Even AKG site doesn’t seem to offer an option.

Anyone know where I can pick up a pair, or even a recommendation for 3rd party replacements?

Maybe try the akg customer support centre seems to be USA centric but if you email they should be able to tell you if official replacements are possible. Then you can at least get an idea of price vs alternative options. I can also see discussions about this on places like Reddit. Good luck

I destroyed a pair of these trying to change the cushioning atop the headphones. There’s a signal wire that runs from one side to the other and this was ripped out in trying to remove the old band, which was incredibly well stuck down.
If I were doing it again I’d just stick tennis racket grip or similar over the top.

Dekoni audio have pads for aka 553.They might well fit. Their website is very helpful finding th necessary pads.

Highly recommended supplier.

I did my Bose ‘she’s watching crap on the tv’ headphones for iPad duties with a set off Amazon from China. If anything they are better than the originals and are showing no signs of wear so far.

There are some well-known, respected 3rd party manufacturers that may help. Dekoni (as mentioned) and Brainwavz, for example.

I have Brainwavz pads for my Meze 99 Classics. Good quality.
