Resurrected my NDX after 5 years. Firmware update links broken?

Hey everyone,
I just took my NDX out of the box after nearly five years in storage. It’s currently running firmware 4.4, and I’d like to upgrade it to 4.9, which appears to be the latest firmware according to Naim’s documentation.

Unfortunately, the official update links in the following PDF (https://media.focal-naim.com/naim/file_manager_files/pages/legal/updates/streamingproducts-update.pdf) seem to be broken or outdated. I am walled out by an error message stating internal server error. Image attached below.

  • Does anyone have a working firmware installer or download link?
  • Any advice on what to watch out for when updating after a long hiatus?
  • Are there any known issues for the upgrade path from 4.4 to 4.9? (My search resulted in none).

Appreciate any help—would love to bring this unit back to life properly.

Thanks in advance!

Try here;

I just tried it and it’s working fine.

Be sure to download the instructions first and read and the follow carefully.

All links working here.
This is for pc
https://dam.focal.com/pinaccess/pinaccess.do?pinCode=voXBzjAQ1aOc
Click at the top where it says “download file” to get the “exe”
This is for the pdf instructions:
https://dam.focal.com/pinaccess/pinaccess.do?pinCode=QfhmGXKUVp32
Then click “original file” on the right hand side

Also note that the vtuner iRadio service ceased and Naim have launched their own in house iRadio with the 4.9 firmware. This post will help you as you’ll need to ensure that all old tuner presets are removed and any old streams stopped in order for the new service to work.

I tried following the instructions from both posts, but no luck so far. From the PDF that Robert.Dane shared, only the instructions for the 4.8 update load properly. Every other link returns the same error message.

I also tested the links from robert_h’s post — same result.

To rule out issues on my end, I’ve tried:

  • Multiple browsers (Chrome, Safari, Edge)
  • Both my desktop PC and MacBook
  • Clearing cache and cookies

Still no access.

When I try going directly to the root of the link (dam*[dot]focal[dot]*com), it prompts me for a username and password, which makes me wonder — are these really public links? Is it possible that those of you who can access them are already logged into some internal system without realizing it?

Would really appreciate any clarification on whether these links are meant to be public or if access is restricted somehow.

Thanks!

As I say, the links are working fine for me here on whichever computer I use.

Be sure you are clicking on the correct links.

which will then take you here;

And pressing download file should start the download.

If not then best contact Naim support on support@naimaudio.com

Superuniti - which is the same generation, has been updated multiple times.

Vital to follow the instructions to the absolute letter - some of us have failed to do so and from experience we know that is when it doesn’t work.
There is a specific order of connecting and activating the process.
Select one method from your list - Mac perhaps - and stick with it. Ensure you have ‘admin’ rights and if necessary any firewall is disabled.
At each stage of the process, take a screen print, which you can then post here if you stilll have an issue. If you can print the instructions, perhaps do so, to create a check list.
Unfortunately it can’t be stressed enough, the update will (only) work by following the instructions, the sequence and the process. You will also need to make sure you have the correct cable (some work, some don’t).

Currently away from home, but someone like @davidhendon who has also done this upgrade many times, might be kind enough to be along to offer some thoughts.

I’m happy to help if I can. The links to the software download are available to me right now, I just checked.

And yes they are public links. You don’t need to be logged into some Naim internal system to use them. For certain, I am not logged in to any Naim system at all except this forum.

Gentlemen,
The instruction are very clear and easy to follow. It’s just not happening. I wished I could post a video capture of my screen. In the absence of that here are two screenshots as of few

And here’s the second image. The forum rules doesn’t allow me to post more than one image apparently. “Sorry new users can only post embedded images”

or something to that effect.

OK, In your position I would contact Naim support - see the link I posted above, or else you can try phoning them.

you are using safari on a mac ?
and you will update your NDX with the mac ?

Here’s everything:
4.9 for PC and mac
2 pdfs with the instructions for PC and mac

You mentioned using several browsers. For reference, what is the version of Chrome you tried? Ancient and fairly new ones tend to look identical.

And you may have to adjust security settings if you are using some aggressive and invasive Security product that thinks it knows best.

Sir, you’re truly a gem. Thank you so much—genuinely appreciate it.

As for everyone else’s questions: I’m running both a PC with Windows 11 Pro and a Mac with the M4 chip running on Sequoia 15.4.x. All my apps and systems are fully up to date. I’m generally quite tech-savvy, so I’m honestly baffled as to why I’m facing these issues when it seems to be working flawlessly for everyone else.

I do have the files now thanks to robert_h :folded_hands: Wish me luck!

Have a fantastic weekend everybody.

If you are using Mac with M4 chip, check that the usb port is fully active.
Recent M4 bk air here wasn’t and needed the port to be set.

Also, when I last updated first gen streamers, a UQ2 ethernet wired + the cable from Mac to streamer, which was also ethernet wired, updated without issue.
Using the same Mac minutes later, but changed to wifi, with update cable to Superuniti, the update would not function. Reverting the Mac to wired ethernet, the update then worked without issue - nothing obvious.

Best advise is to hard wire both Mac and NDX + use the usb cable connection!

You probably have links from PDFs disabled?

Hope your update has been successful now; otherwise before reaching out to customer support, why not contact your friendly dealer?
