So the time has come. I’m retiring. I’ve bought my last hifi gear and as much as I like looking at stuff I’m on a tight budget. I’ll probably buy some tweaks but I’m very happy with my ATC’s and T+A DAC 200. I have an Auralic Aries G2.2 streamer (RIP) that I suspect will last several more years. Other than that I’ve bought my 2023 Audi A4-45 Quattro off lease I don’t drive much it only has about 14K miles on it, and runs great. All in all I’m in good health and hope for 20 more years. Oh BTW getting old sucks but better than the alternative lol
Congrats, may you and your HIFI system last for another 40+ years, and your Audi runs and runs.
Hope that your medicare insurance, 401k, and SSA take good care of you.
Thanks Sean
Enjoy your well deserved retirement.
Good luck with your retirement. I made the same decision two years ago. No regrets.
Nice one, may it be long and fruitful.
Several colleagues in the same team recently hit retirement. Man do I envy them. They are having a blast. Either kicking back or starting passion project companies to run more as hobbies.
Everyone I know who retired in good health has had just the best time.
I think feeding the mind is easier now than ever and my main concern is will I ever reach retirement and if so, will I have enough time to do everything?
Enjoy it. And congrats.
Congratulations! ![]()
I semi retired in 2006 I’m trying to ease myself into it gently… ![]()
Enjoy your retirement.
Still couple years to go, but looking forward! Kind of envy you ![]()
Take it from me, retired life is wonderful, doing what you like when you want to is perfect.
BTW, getting old does not come alone, but as you say, the alternative is infinitely worse. It is best to consider growing old as a privilege and a gift. Time is the most valuable of commodities.
An other way to look at it is that you have retired from work not from life so don’t stagnate in an armchair go out and do stuff. Whatever enthuses you.
Now is the time to start the new life which you will understand after 6 months because then yo will realise all that time you have been working your ass off is now starting to pay & you will have the best time of your life.. The Audi will last you for years to come & the HiFi gear will be there to enjoy as well as everything else you want to enjoy. & with the tight budget have a think about the Waxwing DSP Phono at £462 or $499 because you will really have fun with it as your new sound supply & then you can really enjoy music in a way we never thought would be around at our young ages.

Yesterday I told the boss I was retiring, I’ll be 68 in a few months. It won’t be a shock to the system as I’ve only been working 15 hours a week since I was 45.
A girl in work asked what I’d do if he offered me a large payrise.
I said, I don’t think that will happen, he seemed quite pleased. ![]()
Retirement is not so bad as long as you don’t mind playing loads of tennis, cooking interesting food, listening to lots of great music and taking plenty of holidays![]()
Huh? Waxwing ??
I retired in November 2020 and life has been fantastic. As long as your comfortably financially and stay physically active and take care of yourself you should/will be quite happy.
I am happy with my current Naim system and not looking to upgrade. I get by with my 2013 Subaru Outback with my wifes 2019 Subaru Forester along with public transportation to get around.
To help with the aging I hit the gym 3 times a week and average 7+ miles a day walking.
You only go around once so have fun and make the most of it…
Yahoo… Life is Sweet!
Fully retired in November last year at 66 although I had only been only working part time for the last 16 years due to a serious accident so it was no great leap to stop altogether.
Retirement funds are ok so no money worries and hopefully I’ve still got a few good years left in me health wise so enjoying the additional time and looking forward to a few more holidays and more time to listen to the hi fi.
Other than the tennis, have to agree with you there. Oh, I do like watching tennis ![]()
Six years into retirement and still bored!
I retired two years ago come May. I love it. I stay up late listening to the hifi, sleep in, and cycle 120+ miles/week. I’m not bored and have no desire to go back to work, not even part time.
