Sorry to see Nurse Gladys Emmanuel has left us.
Stalwart of British TV through several decades!
She was indeed a stalwart , interestingly nothing for the last few years .
She was in her eighties - how much work are you planning on doing at that age?!
Sad news. She was a brilliant foil for Ronnie Barkers lecherous Arkwright!
The list above suggests that Open All Hours started in 1976! That can’t be right, can it?
Wiki says "It ran for 26 episodes in four series, which aired in 1976, 1981, 1982 and 1985. " The pilot episode ran in 1973. Still seems unbelievably early.
Will never forget Arkwright’s weekend away with Nurse Gladys and his money belt! RIP.
It was one of a series of Ronnie Barker pilot shows and this was one of those selected to become a series.
The other one was Porridge, originally titled ‘Prisoner and Escort’.
Right Constable…?
By all accounts a lovely lady, and a wonderful actress with great comedic timing.
Rest peacefully Lynda, and bless you for the joy you brought into viewer’s lives over the years.
Ah good actors can go on well past the normal retirement age - my point was that she hadn’t worked and I was musing if there was an underlying health issue
