Robbie Robertson RIP

Very sad news that Robbie Robertson has passed away at the age of eighty. Blimey.

His self titled album from 1986 is one of my favourite albums, and the recent Sinematic was also a gem.

No flowers, donations to the Six Nations of The Grand River Community Centre. Says a lot about the man.

Walk in Peace and…Elahkwa, Robbie.

Saddened to hear this. Always liked his solo stuff.

You said it

I have to say this. Yesterday there was media and public rhetoric bordering on hysterical over the internment of a “legend”. Personally I can’t see how just recording someone else’s song makes anyone merit that accolade. Robertson and his peers were responsible for shaping so much in music. Unfortunately I don’t think we will see the word legend used nor his likes again. That makes me sad.

Robbie’s guitar playing throughout this concert is just astonishing. The piece with Clapton, shows Robbie was one of the guitar greats - he certainly gave Clapton a run for his money.

He had such a unique style with that pinched thumb harmonic and his songwriting left us with songs that will go on forever.

I love his guitar (Epiphone Casino) playing and solo at the end of King Harvest Will Surely Come.

There is a site for those who may wish to donate to the Grand River Community Centre. I don’t know if Forum rules permit posting it as a link but it is searchable - Woodland Community Center, Ontario.

(This is general donations site but not specific to Robbie Robertson as far I can see).

Yep, let’s focus on RR’s great body of work.

RIP Robbie.

This is very sad news amongst a lot of recent sad news.

I cannot help feeling that the music we all love and the incredible artists who made it will be remembered much like we remember the passing of the Jazz Age by future generations.

RIP Robbie.

RIP Robbie. Master guitarist, fine songwriter, key to some of the seminal events in 60s rock music, and with The Last Waltz arguably presented its eulogy. I’m in a field listening to music, when I get back I foresee a day of Dylan, Band and RR solo albums coming soon.

Production is terrific with Daniel Lanois.
