Roon 1.8

Reboot core, or just restart Roon server.

Roonlabs is working on this problem. A bit late, but I think, they will solve this problematic crashes shortly.

For the linux users: I did the same as always and seems to be working perfectly as usual: Installed 32-bit Roon.exe into a separate 32-bit wineprefix, wine-5.0, used .Net 452 as this always worked, configured as Win 10.

Thanks, went blazing fast now, database updated, all perfect within a minute :+1:

Faultless. Updated the app (thanks for the heads up @Suedkiez) and then updated the Nucleus. All working fine after a database rebuild. Very nice interface and lovely and quick too.

Up and running at first attempt. Fingers crossed I like it!

Ummmm for me it’s all starting to fall apart . Artists metadata is loading in ridiculously slow and I am seeing bouncing Roon logos until it populates. Only seems to be affecting artists view with all her discovery bits. This has been fine up until last half hour so I guess the increased load of all users switching is killing it. Not the best of starts.

Hah! The Cure hits album finished and roon radio picked this:

Just noticed the same with artist metadata, up until a few minutes ago lightning fast.

Hopefully temporary.

This is another thing I don’t like, mentioned before those awful iOS like circles with images or letter within, searching classical:

DG, HG as though they are acquanitances (and I hate the idea whoever started this crap, probably Apple, as I keep getting spam or nonsense listed with ‘initials’ as though I gave a damn or wanted it).

There are maybe half a dozen male/female duets that tick the boxes for me, that’s one of them, probably the worst of the lot - suspect there 's something on that album that connects it to The Cure.

Just updated to 1.8 as I could not earlier cause y’all were DDOS-ing their servers!

Update went pretty smooth IMO. Have a few crashes in setting on iOS but streaming happily already.

What I am looking forward to mostly is that it seems that finding new music will get easier with this release.

Everything works fine for me, I quite like the new look & feel, except that there is too much empty space on the desktop version.

Yeah, not a fan. I think this works well on small mobile screens, but on the desktop version the circles are, of course, big, and it makes for a visually busy display.

I prefer the vertical scrolling very, very much though

I quite like the vertical scrolling, thankfully the horizontal flipping has gone (hopefully forever).

I completely agree. The new look appears to be more minimalist and clumsy looking than before, with some pretty horrible and jarring colour combinations. Just not as subtle and aesthetically pleasing as the pre 1.8 version - especially on the desktop version which I use most of the time (with a 32" monitor).

I guess that younger people than I, growing up with the likes of iOS, Spotify and social media apps may like the new version, but I’m disappointed. Functionality is obviously the most important part of Roon software, but for me aesthetics come a fairly close second.

Hmmm just found I could now add a radio station by URL. Pretty nifty as I had one I wanted to listen too but could not find it in the search.

If it was there before I did not see it.

Hmm, preferred the old credit lists. Now it’s another overview page with artist images, but much less compact and more difficult to read IMO
However, for artists without images they improved it a lot by showing the initials instead of a nondescript gray blob like before

Am I being dim? IN the artist view I used to see all my local albums, then albums on tidal etc. The tidal stuff is gone?

I see the Qobuz content all the time. But the servers are still overloaded, so sometimes it shows stuff and sometimes just gray squares. I’ll defer judgement until after the traffic has settled.

But Local vs Service also seems to be a Focus option now, “Source”:

But it’s not working well for me, when I click “Qobuz” the “Local” disappears.

Same thing happening here with discography.

Also finding Tags are not working as they were before. Before, if you created multiple Tags and selected more than one, you would see the contents of all Tags.

Now (1.8) if you select more than one Tag, you only see albums that are in each of the tags selected. In most cases this means nothing.
