Can’t say I notice one bit of difference between Roon and native Naim app sq.
Yeah, it would be nice if it it were “closer to hand”
They have to have a large body of work I think. Sonic Youths page has it all.
Most artists pages have discovery of some sort just the bigger and larger body of work the more data there is to line I guess.
Most on the preview moaned about this. It does need to be more prominent.
Thanks! It does! It even makes sense that there needs to be some material to work with, and for these views to be beneficial. (If an artist has only one album, the info is in the credits anyway). However, there are other, less successful/important artists with a large body of work, where there is much less. I a suspecting a bit that someone is helping Valance out with some manual inputs. And that’s OK, Valance is still a baby that needs to learn, and it makes sense to first focus on the important ones. It gives a glimpse of where they want to go, and one thing is sure: it’s much better than not having it.
*goes to edit the poor Steve Shelley artist picture showing Kim*
It will grow with more users input I believe which is what Enno pointed at in the video. It will use their collections, listening habit etc to build the recommendations as well as the usual links from credits etc. I like how credit now you can see the main people easier and select their work.
The way focus works as well on collobarators or sat cover versions is great as it only shows initially the tracks that are relevant to your filter but then you can easily reveal the whole album if wanted with a quick click.
One big ommission in In their prime for the Youth though no Daydream Nation. Come on its the most seminal album.
Yep As usual we will grow to like it much more after some exploration
Searching for a good Steve Shelley artist picture, I found a “net worth” website claiming that after intensive research on Steve Shelley they concluded he has a net worth of 208.1 million USD. Rrrrrright.
Indeed. 1990-95 is a weird choice for “their prime”. I adore Dirty, obviously, but Valance may be looking a bit too much at major label deals and sales.
*goes to add Daydream Nation to the library. Ha, this will teach this Valance person*
Edit: Solved! There is no DN on Qobuz! Hummmm
My ripping spree advanced to N, so will take some time until I see what happens when I add the DN rip
Yeah I noticed that. When I Tidal it was available in there. But my copy is on Vinyl. So something I missed when I ditched Tidal. Just bought it on Bandcamp for a tenner. Qobuz don’t have Sister or Evol either.
I have every official main album twice on vinyl (original from back in the day plus the reissues), plus the box sets, plus all CDs, the CD box sets, the SYR releases, and lots of bootlegs. I’m set but surprised about it being missing. I definitely also had it in Tidal.
It’s a bit of an issue that you can attempt to learn about such a band on Qobuz/Roon and remain somewhat oblivious to such an important omission (though it is of course mentioned in the Bio). I am sure that Roon’s metadata has it, and once I import the rip it will be all there. But I would prefer if Roon had a way to display it anyway, with a pointer that it is not in the streaming service. Who knows what kind of embarrassing holes in my knowledge I’ll develop for artists I am less familiar with
Spoken like it’s 1999
Not a single one from before Goo/1990
Same here.
Luckily I have other Windows 10 devices I can use, so I don’t have to move to 1.8 just yet.
Well PCM is PCM… so you can’t really do much to change it… it is what it is… if you hearing differences that will be down to streamer drivers/implementation… but I hear no SQ difference between Roon or UPnP on my NDX2 transport… they are both outstanding into my Dave…
Agree the interface appears a little meh… can’t work out whether it’s a case of getting used to it or whether it’s meh…
Some bits are a bit meh. But it starts to fall into place and it’s much quicker to find stuff and navigate than 1.7.
Yes I like some of the new navigate and artist linkage options… but a bit cluttered and strange use of space on the main play screens.
It may be because of my current WIN10 NUC7i5 PC that I use as the roon Core server - which when I play via the NDX2 using Asset serving from the same box is a lot better than roon to these cloth ears. Humble Hugo2 here now into Naim Classic series (Trimley StM sub-species).
My previous SonicTransporter did a lot, lot better with roon, but I had to return it with hardware issues. I am considering an Appe Mac mini(M1) once I have been vaccinated for my naim upgraditis…
No, nothing to do with volume, though I obviously couldn’t do an A/B of 1.8 vs 1.7
then how do you know
