It sold extremely well and was very popular with dealers. Naim would have loved to keep production going. They gave the reason for why production had to end quite suddenly - long-running issues with the supply of crucial components have left us with no viable options to continue manufacturing the SUPERNAIT 3.. ..despite our R&D department’s efforts to find a workaround.
Good link - was nice to read about the 272, thanks!
Slightly off topic, but If I knew then what I know now (or knew then what I like now) I think I would have started off with a 272/250. I have a 172 and there’s something about the volume dial, seeing the actual volume number on screen, and the ability to control it from the app that make it a brilliant piece of kit.
At current used prices you could do worse than a 272/250. When it was first released I considered it, but found the NDX/Supernait a little better.
There was, in my view, a staggering amount of ownership bias driven talking up of the abilities of the 272 back then, but nevertheless I wouldn’t rule it out as long as you are OK with the old streaming platform, which is the same as your 172.
I’m going to ride that old streaming platform until its last breath. Tidal and Spotify for casual listening, UPnP streaming of CDs for active listening.
The only piece that’s been retired so far is the 1st gen UQ1 with the old board. And even that was totally fine until the internet radio moved in-house.
Yes, thats how it should be, easy to adjust even at nights.
That is as long as the display is not fading, my own SU lasted few years only.
Many amps just have a volume and not even a led.
Its ok in the entry level price range, but moving up its a pain, fx a Rega Aethos doesn’t even have a volume led, nice amp apart from this.
