S600 smaller room?

I’m continuing to tweak my listening room in the basement. It’s where most of my listening is done these days. I have a line on a pair of passive s600’s and wondering how they would fit in a smaller room? I have a 300 DR to run them. Front end is a LP12 and NDS. The room is 15 feet long by 11 feet wide? I have Wilson Duette’s in there now. They are nice but a little boomy with the rear ports. Also was thinking of trying a pair of YG Carmels v.1. Thanks!

My room is small (15x9) too and has a low ceiling. The S600s replaced SBLs and I initially thought that they would dominate the room, but they don’t plus the sound is very Naim, by which I mean natural; although, some don’t get on with them.

I bought mine 2nd hand after listening to them for a couple of weeks. I was immediately hooked on the sound.

I should add that my room has three doorways that are always open, two recessed windows and two non parallel walls. The S600 sit in a long wall with doors next to them so they fire across the short width of the room. All this to say that the room acoustics are non standard, which is a benefit to the sound (to my ears anyway).

If you search the Forum you will find that the Ovators get mixed reviews. I think a demo, or buying with the option of returning them if they don’t suit would be the safest option. Buying blind on advice or experiences on here might be risky, perhaps more than some other speaker models.

I should say I’ve no direct experience of Ovators. I use SL2s in a room similar to yours. An option if you can find a good pair perhaps?

I used Sonus Faber Guarneri Homage in a similar v small room, fronted by 52/135s/LP12/NAT02. Loved the sound. speakers looked amazing too.

Good luck, Adrian

No substitute for auditioning them in your room. If you are flexible on placement and your room is well damped - soft furnishings and carpet on floor, rather than lots of reflective surfaces. Mine fire across a slightly larger room 20 x 15.
You posted that you have a 300DR to run them, while your profile lists a 500DR?
S600s were voiced with a 300 amp. First thing to do, since they will have been moved and are now of course, some years old, is to check all the torque settings against the spec sheet - it makes a difference!

I have the 500 syatem with the S600 in a smallish room, 4.50 x 3.60 m with the latter on the shorter side, since on the longer i have the entry door and and french window on the opposite. I think that having them on the longer would be better, however the balance Is very good and no booking bass

Thanks everyone. Seems like it could work. Not a chance to demo so just buying sight unseen if I do it. I wish I could. The YG Carmels are a little bit easier to demo as they are fairly close by. Would have to pay a small restocking fee if I don’t like them.

I had Ovator 600’s in my study which is about the same size as your proposed room. They behaved a bit like super headphones. Massive amount of detail, everything comes thru, but no boogie in my case. They were good but had limitations. I could not turn up the volume too much since that caused boom. Side wall reflections were odd too.

Anyhow, now the Ovators are in our much larger living with a metre to the sidewalls and that is magic.

In my case the distance to the sidewall was key.
