Question: I have an uniti star and blu ray player NAD t577.
Can I use the analog audio out from the blu ray player and use the DIN input from the Star
to get hidef audio?
And are there such cables which I can use for this?

Yes, you can use either the DIN or RCA inputs on the Star connected to the analogue outputs on the Bluray. If you use the DIN input, you need to check that it’s the right cable and wire configuration on the DIN plug (so RCA source to Naim DIN input).
If the Bluray has a digital outputs you can also use those, though if you want hi-res outputs you will need to use a HDMI de-embeder, which is discussed a few times in this thread.

You’ll need to check the diagram by the socket in the Star, or in the manual. But it’s the standard RCA source to Naim pre-amp input cable that you need, Otherwise just stick with regulair RCA leads.

The SACD is available again in NZ, so thinking of grabbing it, though it’s $100. I have read a few reviews that the original CD is better though - the SACD is a remaster but in theory would have a better dynamic range. A used original CD is available for a huge $6. The recent 45rpm vinyl is also having rave reviews….. but that makes the SACD look cheap 
Any thoughts?
Ebay has a 2 disc CD + Blu-ray available for USD 25 plus postage. Would be better value than the SACD.
I have this set and the Blu-ray is excellent.

Forgive me if you’ve already read my “sermon” about ripping SACDs (the SACD layer, of course) or ripping a Blu-Ray disc, but that is a great way to go as it eliminates players, cabling questions, etc. Obviously you need a streamer that can process DSD (like NAC N 272). Search this forum, and you should find more details I posted previously. I’ll see if I can find it and get back with a link.

Latest second hand purchase - “Ammonia Avenue” by the Alan Parsons Project on Blu Ray audio. This is the hi-res and 5.1 remix. The original recording was a Digital Master Recording on the Sony PCM 1610 system, so not surprisingly the 96/24 PCM mix is just wonderful - very clean and detailed with great dynamics, but without the slightly harsh top end that is on some of the tracks on the “Turn of a Friendly Card” Blu Ray audio (I prefer the HDAD version of that album).
Ammonia Avenue has some great tracks, especially “Don’t Answer Me” and the instrumental “Pipeline”- very happy to have a nice collection of Blu Ray audio and SACD now.

I feel that searching SACDs which match personal tastes is like chasing treasures under the sea. And when you receive it you are happy like a child.
Different from buying a hires album on Qobuz and copying it in 5 minutes to a server.

Exactly sweetie. One of the benefits of Firmware Gate was that I started to use physical media more (records, SACD, Blu Ray and CD) and that on-line streaming and downloads doesn’t connect me in the same way - musically it is fine, but the experience lacks emotion and is a bit sterile compared to the physical media.

Sorry for the late reply. No I haven’t, I’ve been spending my money on LP’s, CDs and BluRays.
Quite a bit of money actually, I daren’t add the money up. A few hundreds really, good stuff but it put a hold on any equipment purchase .

I find this to be a very interesting thread.
Question to you tech guys, I want to add my 4K Blu-ray player back into the system but in 2.0 channels only.
I plan to use the digital optical out from player into my Luxman D-10X optical in.
I notice on some discs there is a 2.0 DTS-HD master mix included. Will I get the full spec signal into my Luxman via the optical connection as mentioned above?

Digital optical and coaxial outputs from Blu-ray Players are limited (By Copyright Protection Rules) to 16/48.
To get full Hi-Res you would have to buy an HDMI De-Embedder like a Bluestream HD11AU (although that only has coaxial output, however, you can get HDMI De-Embedders that have optical out if you must have the optical) and then use the HDMI Audio output from the Blu-ray Player into the HDMI De-Embedder then the coaxial or optical into your D-10X.
Quite a few on the Forum have used the HDMI De-Embedders and had very good sound quality improvements over a Blu-ray Players Coaxial or Optical outputs.
The 2.0 DTS-HD Master mix should output on the optical and coaxial outputs but they will only be at 16/48 and not the full Hi-Res if thats whats on the disc.
