It’s sad that the four big Ron Smith full wave loop G23’s have gone.
The replacement is a 6 element folded half wave dipole.
They are no longer receiving from the 250kW transmitter at Rowridge IoW. The new one looks to be pointing at the very low power local Salisbury transmitter on Harnham Hill, just 1.3 miles away.
Old father time stops for no one, Naim drop FM tuners, FM will probably be relegated to local services sometime soon after 2030, probably followed by DAB and we’ll all be listening to something that’s not yet invented with no antenna.
Funnies aside I think it’s healthy to have an interest in technology that got us to where we are today. I started my professional journey as a presenter on local FM commercial radio in the late 80’s (Ocean Sound), doing many outside broadcasts and studio prep, it was a great experience as a teenager that I still fondly refer to even today.
It is sad in a way, but as @NeilS explained when it was first mentioned the big Galaxies had deteriorated and become unstable so had to be removed, not least for H&S reasons.
