Kiwi actor who’s been battling lymphoma passes away at 78.
Just seen this. Blimey, another one gone. Inevitable of course, but all these actors, musicians, MP’s who have been there through my life moving on. Brings on some morbidity.
Liked Sam Neill though, lots of decent movies, usually played Sam Neill but that was fine.
Dean Spanley…RIP. Sad news.
Very sad
I thought he was great in Dead Calm. I remember well the first time I saw this film; it was the same weekend that my girlfriend at the time went sailing with a friend!
Rest in peace, and thanks for the films.
I always liked The Dish, RIP
That’s a big loss, a true legend here, I remember his films back in the day before he found fame.
I was a big fan of his, not always his movies but in how he carried himself on the many documentaries interviews on tv in Australia he’d spent a lot of time here. He was recently in an ABC program where celebrities are interviewed by media students with autism. Both they and he were wonderful worth tracking down if you’re interested. I also followed him through his battle with a rare blood cancer, something close to home. It caught a lot of people by surprise as he’d just recently returned to work and declared he was cancer free.
Great movie. If you like that it’s worth tracking down The Castle.
Horrible news, he’s one of the few actors that I’d actually like to have had a beer with, and I’m certain that he’d have said sure, no problem.
Genuinely nice bloke & looked so approachable on every interview and didn’t carry on like half the “famous” celebs that we have now.
Had massive talent, you don’t get to screen test for Bond if you weren’t highly regarded…..
Incredibly sad.
A thoroughly good and well respected guy apparently. Some great acting performances as a legacy. RIP Sam.
Very sad and too early. Given he was a top leading actor, he always seemed a humble down-to-earth person.
Loads of great performances, but for me his best scene is;
Makes me laugh every time after the scene, not before, because that’s what great actors do.
My older brother was at Uni in Christchurch NZ with Sam Neill - my bro tells me Sam always had an entourage of young ladies after him. I met him a couple of times at Sydney airport flying out to NZ , a down to earth decent likeable gent.
My 2 favourite movies are small budget ones
Death in Brunswick - with another kiwi character John Clarke - classic Aussie & Kiwi humour
Hunt for the Wilderpeople - absolute classic , watch it numerous times
RIP Sir Sam Neill
I forgot all about Death in Brunswick, classic
He did 90 odd movies and 45 odd TV series
Amazing career
My kiwi actor friend Roy Billing did a tribute to Sam on channel 9 last night ( they were mates both featured in the movie The Dish ) Roy now lives on Waiheke Island
I don’t think I’ve seen those, but might have. My old favourite was Sleeping Dogs.
John Clarke is absolutely brilliant steals the show well worth tracking it down.
Track down those 2 movies Mike they are crackers
Hunt for the Wilderpeople came out say 7/8 years ago from memory - absolute kiwi classic
I remember seeing it now mate.
