fabFlter (small company that create plugins for digital recording) published a number of instructional videos and this one might be interesting even with playback equipment (fully digital preamps). it explains what happens when you chain dsp-algorithms and one or more are non-linear (like a compressor or perhaps room correction) and how you can deal with it.
fabFilter is not the only ones that handles this, there are a few more. they are just the first to explain it so I got the message. and that we still have much to learn on recordng, mixing and mastering digital.
