Bit of an odd question but does anyone know what type of screw a Naim Lavender DIN5 interconnect should have on the outer metal sleeve? I have one where the screw was lost by previous owner and replaced with a galvanised roundhead pozidrive screw (you would have to go a long way to find something less appropriate. Also, I’d be interested to know if these are a specialised item or something I can pick-up from the hardware store.
Hi, I have just looked at one of the lavender DINs running into the back of my pre. The screw head is definitely slightly domed, and for a flat screwdriver. To my eye, it looks a very non-standard type, probably quite niche. I’m hoping @NeilS can help you.
I don’t know whether it’s a screw that cam be bought off the shelf. However, you could ask your Naim dealer whether they have one rolling around in a spares drawer somewhere.
Just had a look at one - on a Chord Chrysalis, but its the same PREH DIN plug.
Certainly not a standard screw. Recent ones are now a cross-head screw, but the previous ones were slotted. PREH being German made, I would hazard the thread will be Metric.
I think the best bet, as @Richard.Dane suggested, is to see if a dealer has one. Maybe from an otherwise broken plug.
Worst Case. Buy another PREH DIN…
If you got hold of the correct screw, I doubt it would be any use.
There is a very good chance the replacement screw has destroyed the original thread, as it is probably a self tapping screw
If the new screw is stopping the plug from sliding apart it’s working perfectly.
Don’t worry about it.
I’d buy a new plug and swap the guts out.
If it bothered me that much.
I would imagine that the screws are bespoke, with a machine thread. The old ones had a slotted head & the newer ones have a slotted/T8 hybrid head.
As Fatcat says above, the threads are likely ruined now. Also, if it is a self tapper, it will have a sharp pointy bit right where you don’t want sharp pointy bits! So the usually floating outer part may now be in contact with one of the cable cores.
Regards
Neil.
I’d get hold of a new lavender cable. Easier
That’s what I’d do but the OP only wants a screw Ooer.
Get hold of any ol’ scrap cable with any ol’ PREH, I have some in my bits box, and rob a screw.
