Sennheiser HD800s cable replacement

Somehow I’ve managed to damage the cable with the 4.4 mm jack on my trusty HD800s. I feed these off a Hugo2. So…do I just buy a replacement or are there useful upgraded cables that are worth tracking down?

When my HD800 cable started fraying I replaced it with an Atlas Zeno balanced one.

I was and am impressed by the better detail and imaging it provided and wouldn’t go back to a stock one again.

Worth checking out - but I would always council with cables either try before you buy or be able to return if it doesnt suite your taste!!

Regards

There are many sellers offering after market cables. Have a look on e-bay and find one that fits your price. Are they better than Sennheiser?

Of course you can always push the boat out.:face_with_peeking_eye:

They of course have lesser priced cables and are highly praised in the
Headphone community.

I am using Forza AudioWorks cables on several headphones (one of them is an HD600). But on my HD800S, I am using a balanced Sennheiser XLR cable.

I’m using a Cxnnected replacement cable for my Focal Elear headphones which is much better than the original cable and also a replacement cable from Custom Cans.

Not sure where you’re located, but shot can see from the phone they send worldwide.

Hope that you get it sorted shortly.

I had previously upgraded HD600 cables with ATLAS and Furutech ADL ones which were a very decent change. But for my HD800s I sort of held back because the supplied cable is so good.

While I can vouch for both ATLAS and Furutech ADL options as being superb, I would probably replace HD800s with the Sennheiser one again.

I upgraded mine using Audio Sensibility cables, when I needed a longer headphone lead. Well worth it I think.

Thanks all for great feedback. I do wonder if I need to start a new topic now - ‘Winning ways to successfully introduce concept of purchasing a £2700 cable into everyday conversation with dubious partner’

Judging from the state of things, “The world is about to end anyway” seems like a reasonable, and accurate opener.

Time to remortgage and go full Klimax/Full 500/Kudos then :joy:

I’ve replaced the cables on all my headphones (Sennheiser HD 700, 800, Focal Clear MG, Audeze LCD-3) with balanced Dragon cables by Moon Audio (blue, silver and black). See Dragon Cables | High End Audio Cables

I also use Moon Audio cables on my headphones (Dan Clark Audio Aeon2, beyerdynamic Amiron Home, Shure iems). They are local to me though.

If they are ‘dubious’ I would not tell them

Kimber Axios AG headphone cable starts at £3000 for the shortest available length…

If you have a Google for hd800 Mogami 2893 Miniature Starquad you will find a replacement cable made of a high quality professional studio grade cable for less the £50 on Amazon I used the same cable when I made my own hd800 replacement cable.

Mogami 2893 Miniature Starquad is a really nice cable and an improvement on the stock one imo plus you know exactly what your getting.

Did you source new sennheiser plugs or reuse the existing.
I am thinking of trying the xlr connection to see if it gives me an improvement over the pentaconn.

I sourced new connectors for left and right into the headphone I think reusing the original connector was not recommended when I was looking for information on this.

I fitted a Neutrik xlr connector amp end as my amp had both trs and XLR out.

The origin cable where it splits into the left and right pair had been degraded (not uncommon) I cut this off and fitted a XLR and turned it into a spare extension cable trs into XLR.

If contemplating diying please be aware that the internal pins of the connector that goes into the headphone are tiny and very fiddly to solder and assemble correctly.

Could you please say what make/model are the connectors at the headphone end?

Hi sorry I don’t have the information on what brand they were it was about 7 or 8 years ago when I replaced the cable I remember there were several brand options available at that time.

Ah the joys of the joint bank accounts
