Servers not visible

I have a Nova, Atom, Muso and miso QB.

Once upon a time I could see my Unitiserve and QNAP on the UnPn/Server option on the IOS Naim app. This are now not visible at all and very frustrating.

I have downloaded VLC and can see them both. O problem so happy they are running ok in server mode. Also I have run net Analyser and can see both albeit no “u” is showing next to them.

The N Srve app can see the UnitSetve ok but I have to rely on a direct wired connection so can only surface up on one device.

I would like to be able to service this in that Naim app properly so I can play straight from my equipment and get the artwork etc.

I suspect it’s something to do with the apple app and not my network.

Any ideas on making this server option on the Naim app work? I am using iOS 18 and update to latest app.

Have you tried turning off your router, switch, the Qnap and the Serve, then turning on the router, letting it boot up, then any switch, then finally the two servers?

Tried as suggested sequence and this has not worked. The only item I can see is a hard disk attached to my router USB which does surface by I assume the UNPN - this was available before. The VLC app as mentioned prior can see the QNAP and Unitiserve. See pictures below

I would install MinimServer from the Qnap store and see if that resolves the issue.

That doesn’t explain why vlc can see the servers, and it won’t fix the invisible unitiserve.

Try running the network scan option in the Naim app. Go to the “rooms” screen (where it lists your nova, qb etc), click the ? in the circle, scroll to the bottom.

Thanks I ran this now and it can see the Unitiserve IP connection below but does not recognize it as a name product see screen shot below …76. Where to next?

The “Servers” part will only show UPnP servers.

According to VLC, everything else is just file shares (SMB). You will not see those one most current Naim streamers. (Not sure e.g. about Star, because it can access file shares to access storage for ripped music.)

Have done this see post and screen shot

Any further options to investigate? The unitiserve should be showing as. Upnp server when looking at it from the other Naim items I have. The other tool does not show net analyzer tool does not show a “u” next to the US.

I have a similar problem - when I first set up our Naim system a couple of years ago (Uniti and MuSo) I was able to add our Synology server to the system, and play tracks from that. Then (for months) it was showing as a server, with the name I gave it, but no music was visible. I’ve connected the server to my laptop and can play tracks from that, so the server is working. I’ve tried resetting apps, powering everything down and then back up, and have updated the Naim/Focal app.
I can’t even see a setting or option to search for a server… and the ‘quick start’ guides for the Uniti and MuSo don’t include this.

Please could someone point me in the right direction?

When you go to the servers (or upnp as it’s called in some streamers) page, the app does search for upnp servers automatically. That’s why there isn’t an option or setting.

Thanks - but if I choose the Server as an input, it won’t show any music. I did a network scan and it found the server and said the (wired) connection was good. I’ve tried turning everything off again (ie power to each device) and then rebooted the router, then the switch box, then the server and then the Naim devices.
I’ve spent ages trying different things!

That means your phone or tablet on which you run the app isn’t seeing any servers on the network it’s connected to. Maybe your WiFi (to which your phone/tablet is connected) isn’t part of the network your NAS is on, or your Synology NAS isn’t responding to discovery requests from the app.

Maybe your NAS software updated and you should look there to see whether there is a setting that you need to change. For example if the upnp server software on the NAS, you would be able to see it with a network scan but the Naim app wouldn’t see it as it doesn’t work with stores, just with server software.

Sometimes, I have had to restart the UPnP software, not just the NAS drive.
I’m not sure why.

Thanks - I was confident that it wasn’t a connection issue and so logged into the NAS (not done for years!) to find that the Synology Audio Station package needed repairing. That’s now done and my music is playing from the Naim

Update on this mystery. After a bit of back and forward from Naim Support (who were very responsive) I managed to narrow down the issue.

Long story short I realized from the network scans I had a lot of devices trying to connect to the router, 25 to 40 devices. Sounds a lot but not really when you have a TVs, Streamers, Receivers etc accros two rooms and a bedroom people with phones, smart watches and tablets , oh yes and a smart fridge and oven and central heating. Any way this was way to much for the simple modem router I was provided by our local telecom to cope with. I had to fork out for a decent grunty triband mother (Netgear RAXE300) and replaced the one from Telecom and bingo I can now see all UPNP servers including my uniti Serve which I though was broken.

Now all going well. So at the end the issue wasn’t NAIM settings at all or router settings (god knows I played arround with everything). The is is concurrent devices and entry level router/modem.

Only other issue now is trying to get my Uniti Serve backup going again - hopefully this will now make that easier.

Big thanks to NAIM support.

Side note: new privacy features on e.g. phones/tablets/computers (rotating invented MAC addresses, intended for making you less traceable in foreign networks - I know of Apple using this increasingly, not sure about other vendors) can make your devices show as “new on a network” every now and then and also clutter the list of seen devices/MAC addresses in your router.

I prefer to switch those functions off for my own network.

We have an RAXE 300 and it’s been very good. I’m pleased you’ve got it sorted out; these things can be really frustrating.
