Servicing required?

Greetings from Australia,

One for the local experts please. Over the past six months or so I’ve upgraded from a 5si to the following:

NAC272/XPS-DR, NAP250. 2 and a new pair of Dynaudio Special 40 with a pair of Rel T5Xs. All the electronics have an unknown service history.

When I first got the system up and running my volume was around 40 for normal listening. It’s been slowly increasing to where it’s now approaching 60 - which was previously way too loud for comfort.

The only thing that “should” be changing is the break-in state of the new speakers and subs.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks - Ken

I wouldn’t buy anything “blind” you don’t know the history?

I have bought plenty ‘blind’ after asking questions, but always allow for the cost of service. The only issue I have had was the non dr 300 that I bought. It really did not sound any better than the 250DR I had. Whether that was a service issue or not I don’t know, but a service and DR upgrade sorted it.

A couple of things.

1st, check that you haven’t activated the volume limiter in the 272.

2nd, I’ve had my 250 and XPS2 serviced last week after too many years(!). A loss of volume was not one of the symptoms that I experienced.

It could well be that 2 or all pieces of your system need a service @Lipper.
If your 272 is a late one, it shouldn’t need a service yet. But if it’s an early one (2014), it is coming up to needing a service.
Your XPS-DR, if an early one, absolutely will be in need of a service.
Your NAP 250.2 if an early or late one will be in need of a service.
I don’t know if you can still get Naim gear serviced in Australia or NZ anymore, but there are a few members on the forum that will know. If it’s not possible to have a service done in Australia or NZ, sending them back to the UK might be your only option. They may well have already been serviced of course in Australia, lets hope they have and members on the forum can tell you how to find out if they have.
