It really is. I just hooked it up again and yes, no doubt in my mind it really is the best Nait.

That one was an option as well but decided on the one I got. I wouldn’t mind the green light Nait 1 though, the one Richard has mentioned.

Nice collection. Defo the olive Nait. I do not like the CB design but the 50 sounds good so it stays for the moment. Like the Banksy.

From a visual pov I think I slightly prefer the CB Nait 2, closely followed by the olive.
(I think I even prefer the more mat fascia from the Nait 1 over the Nait 50)

how did you choose between the two? I cannot remember the original photo of yours and I can’t tell if the front plate looks different on the CD version. Also, you said that you’ve hooked the 50 back up. Would you say that it’s night and day better or just incrementally better than the 2?

Even if it was launched now, nearly 40 years after its actual release, the Olive Nait 2 would still look (still is) ahead of its time!
No amp looks as good as this to my eyes…. but the Nait 50 just sounds better (I mean Nait 2 better, not just better)
… quite some brave thing from Naim to attempt an improved follow on act on these when you think about it! The more I listen to it, the more I understand Steve Sell’s comments that they “went to town” for components and quality to achieve this.

Seeing your Olive NAIT2 reminded me of a system I heard a very long time ago at a friend of a friend’s house. A Marantz CD52SE into a NAIT 2 with Rega ELA speakers (the Mk1 versions with fluted baffles). Playing EBTG ‘Idlewild’ it all sounded rather lovely.

I think we share the same taste in things visually speaking Alco. I agree on everything you mentioned including preferring the Nait 1 looks wise over the 50. The 50 feels the best built and most solid to use though, turning that volume knob is just so satisfying lol.

I still have a TT so the phono stage was something I wanted, plus I liked the olive colour over the bronze looking one. Being fairly recently recapped was another factor for me. I’m not sure what you’d consider night and day but the 50 will be my main amp going forward, it’s noticeably better and also lets me use my Powerline which takes it up another small notch.
Agreed the Olive Nait 2 looks so cool, I’ve wanted one since I first was made aware of Naim. But that 50 is really something special and worth all the praise it gets on the Nait 50 thread that’s been going on forever.

James_n that story reminds me of an old setup I had about 20 years ago. Nait 2 with a Rega P-25 and some old Rega Kyte speakers.(the original versions) Those speakers weren’t much to look at but sounded great in my small room. Think I paid under $200 for them and wish I didn’t sell them for practically nothing.

maybe I need to look into a Powerline as well. I also prefer the olive over bronze. I guess it wasn’t just my eyes that thought the CD Nait 2’s finish was more bronze.

The olive faceplate catches the light nicely, and it has the cleanest design I think.
