Hypothetically, if I had an older preamp, say a 10 year old NAC202, that has primarily been used via the CD input for 95% of its lifespan… Would it be a good idea to use another input, like the AUX1 or AUX2 instead?
There is no ‘wear’ on electronic components in use vs powered up and idle, the only potential wear on an input being if you often remove and re-insert plugs which could cause wear to any plating of socket surface, or permanent deformation of any flexible plug or socket contacts, so I can’t see any benefit in so doing.

Well, I could see that the relays could be affected.

But is it better to wait till one dies before swapping over, or swap periodically? I doubt overall relay service life is less if in one continuous run rather than periodically switched.
