The debate about whether active or passive ATC speakers are better seems fatuous to me. For me, it is more about being different. Neither approach is right or wrong, better or worse; instead, they are different, and each will appeal more or less to different people.
I have heard active and passive 50s, 40s and 19s numerous times and think both active and passive have merits. I have decided that I prefer passive 40s over the active with Naim power amps. If I did the comparison against another manufacturer’s power amps, I might choose the active over the passive speaker, and another person might make a different choice.
My view is that if you are happy with your choice, ignore the noise of this endless debate and enjoy your music of choice.

Got you beat then, I am 60 and when I was nine we Emigrated to Canada from England. Yet I was passionate about music at that young age…I recall top of the pops was an evening glued to the TV for my family. T-rex, David Bowie, Slade were my favourites back then. That is at least 52-53 years, and my love of music has never stopped.

The first group that I listened to seriously and that made me love music is AC/DC I was 12 years old but I became interested in Hifi only at the age of 14… but yes you beat me!

I’ve been into hifi for 45 years, never designed anything and I’m more opinionated than anyone I’ve ever met.
I think that’s saying something.

Heard the 50s with the FBA800.
Bet that is going to sound awesome!
I had the Sapphire 800 in the house for 2 days when i first got my 50s, I had to get it out ASAP. Blew my mind . This is cheaper so need to see if it’s performance is at least approaching the 800.

Was it your Keltiks which were for sale on shop floor?
No Keltiks long gone last year . They did bass ok but the rest of the performance is outclassed by the ATC many fold , plus the musical coherence of the ATC is on another planet. Don’t know why I stuck with them so long .

Yeah, I’m going to pass and be patient for the colour I actually want. I’m likely to go for a walnut pair of the stand mounts but I’m in no rush (taking my time for once).
