With respect to Naim and this wonderful forum ,im not going to say more than that the 332 integrates exceedingly well with the Sugden. If you are in the market for ATC or already own , I would certainly check out the Sugden ,if you can accommodate the size and slightly elevated electricity usage ( 5p per hour )

Was hoping to audition some Active 20’s, however, dealer informs me that demo set ‘damaged in transit’ so the wait continues…… :slightly_frowning_face:. Perhaps it’s telling me something .

Question for owners of the 50SCM passive - is there an audible difference between the standmount configuration and the tower configuration? Does the tower configuration require a larger space?
Thanks’

Don’t own 50s, sadly, but I’m pretty sure ATC would say no. I had a chat with Ben Lilly of ATC about the sonics of tower vs standmount versions of passive 20s and he said, to shorten our chat, that they should sound the same. My guess is that also applies to 50s, but why not ask ATC, they’re very helpful?

I have a pair of active 20towers and active 20stand mounts. The stand mounts are 1cm wider and 5cm deeper - not sure if there is variation in the 50’s.

With tower / stand mounts from ATC it’s a visual option assuming you use the stands that come with the stand mounts I.e. no change in performance.

I am about to do a little experiment and put my stand mounts on the main system but I am anticipating no change in sound although with the stands they are a little taller than the towers but that would suit my listening height driven by different sofa heights in the two rooms.

As I have said many a time the 50’s overpowered my room (3.3m x 4.7m) so a home demo is pretty sensible.

Just in case its helpful - to others - here is a picture to illustrate this difference between the stand mounts and the towers, etc..

Obviously, the choice of stands makes a difference, but the stand mounts are slightly deeper and wider, compared to the floor standing “towers”. Best seen, when comparing the top surface of the two units.

@Farthings-cat FWIW, myself and Tony @BasicallySound , we experimented with his demo’ pairs - a few weeks ago - After an hour or so, I’m not really sure we could discern any significant differences, across a diverse range of music. So, I’ve taken that conclusion forward with my own thinking and deliberations on all these things.

System used was Naim NSC222.
So, fascinated to learn what you find, with your system ( that is, higher performance, maybe more resolving), in your listening room.

Thanks R, good info! I think my sofa height in my music room is better suited to the slightly taller standmounts and in my other room the slightly smaller towers would work better plus a a slight visual win as the are towers have a slightly smaller footprint.

It could end up an unnecessary faff but other than effort it’s a free experiment!

Love the experiments :+1:
Personally, feel it’s part of the joy of this hobby.

SCM20PSLT - I love the sound from these, but one day I will try the 50s, house move first though…

Nice! As ATC said to me, get the speakers that fit your space. Nice to see the 20’s get the attention they deserve, a real sweet spot in the range. I definitely ‘squeezed’ the 50’s into my room but thankfully no issues.

I tried Furutech DPS 4.1 with NCF connectors on my active ATC SCM40’s
I had good cables on them already but HOLY SH*T!!! I had never heard my ATC’s SOUNDING THIS GOOD!!!
The slower sounding sound that they caused on 333 & 332 was completely absent. Everything just became more energetic with more impact and actually feeling the energy of the bass and instruments more in your body. Voices got soo much more emotional and piano sounds were transformational without over exaggerating. You could hear so much more resonance of the piano and the keys being hit/played?. Not sure what the right vocabulary is here in English.
It simply became more relaxed to listen to but not by slowing down the music or by reducing PRaT. How the ATC’s sometimes can be a bit studio like they now had the perfect mix between studio detail and hifi emotional impact. I would recommend anyone with active ATC’s to try this cable!!!

In the Furutech thread there’s a bit more detail about this.

Just curious is your rack oak finish, thanks

Yes, it is an oak finish, one of Simon’s standard finishes. He was very helpful and matched it closely to another piece of furniture in the room from a photograph that I supplied.
