Some hefty diffusion going on in the background. What is the rest of the room like?

Nice looking racks! Need a bette pick of them square on please!!

How do you like the Spectral pre?

Still very good for its age. Neutral, incisive and transparent. Matches quite well with the ATC, not forgetting it has a lovely built-in phono.

Does Spectral still service their kit?

Not this vintage, parts unavailable was what they told me.

Bet the system and room has a great sound.

Hi Pete. How are ATC doing with your SCM50s?

Hi Al , thanks for checking in ! Last I heard just before Xmas they were on schedule for early February so fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:.
Can’t wait :+1:

Pete, I think you are in for a treat. After a couple of hiccups, admirably resolved by ATC, and my local dealer, in particular, I am now really impressed and happy with my choice of speaker.

I think you will find that, no matter what your taste in music is, the ATC’s will do it justice.

In a way, I hate to say it, but they (active ATC’s) are a bargain.

Look forward to hearing your impressions once you have got them home!

An interesting new review on soundstageultra dot com comparing active against passive 50s driven with NAP300.

Jonathan uses the word “neutral”, and that is the term I have used previously when referencing the ATC’s.

They are at home with any type of music;not in a bland, anodyne way, they simply (as far as I am concerned) present the music as is without imposing their own character on it.

I idly wish, as I have said elsewhere, the ££ and the space to have SCM150aslts. I don’t, so there we are.

They are great speakers I settled for active 40’s as the 50’s put a little toomuch energy in my room…. That said I have done a few things with panels and Townshend podiums So I may revisit them again in a couple of years.

Gary

My room is possibly a little small for the 40’s, but at the moment, only certain tracks seem to occasion some room-induced boom.

Some reviews of the 40’s suggest they don’t produce a lot of bass: they actually do, more so than my old (much larger) reflex Ushers/Nap135’s, but in a much more coherent fashion.

I am considering, finances permitting, some sort of acoustic treatment, but relatively minimal. I don’t want anything stuck to the walls or ceiling, nor anything too large, or I will have to listen standing up, as I will have no space for my chair :grinning:

Worth have a chat with GIK, I found them helpful and they offered me a “sale or return” so only risked the cost of returning them.

I have a tricky room construction wise (plaster board with large gaps) but found the GIK panels did help. Other things that improved my room were introducing a Rel sub and using Townshend podiums.

Hi was just wondering how big your room was?
Does anyone know what size room the scm50 could work in? Mine is about 4m x 6m and the scm50 intrigues me.
Thanks
