Will be interested if you think them a good move up from Obelisks. I struggle with this step!
Try 20s
It’s very unlikely I think @Lowdene. Just curious really. I also really like Titan 808’s, but I’ve done a back to back comparison against my Obelisks in a dealers showroom and wasn’t fully convinced that I’d prefer them to the Obelisks.
I’d love to own Diapasons one day, but don’t know if that will ever happen…
Ah I see you have the Shellmex money sign, rare indeed the light, not making money
Nice!
I’m seriously considering replacing the Dali’s in my Media Room with a pair of these.
Had the Dali’s connected to a Roksan Attessa for getting on towards 9 months now and though it’s good, it’s just not good ENOUGH…
Thinking Nait XS3 or even a preloved Unitistar connected to a pair of SCM 7’s might be a better fit.
Dealer is here Thursday with the New Classic kit for home demo with a pair of active 40’s so the conversation will be had re the Media Room as well.
Wondered if anyone was using Townshend podiums under their passive 40s. Looking at the chart the size 2 is correct for the weight. To get the speakers on this size the podiums would need to be sideways to accommodate the outriggers for the front spikes. This would be a pretty snug fit as the speakers are 300 deep as are the podiums. I have emailed Townshend and they said this would be fine. I was just wondering about how stable they would be on wobbling bases?
I’m using them under my active 40s. It’s not only the base size It’s te load cell as well.
I bought mine for use with my old Usher speakers, but am now using them with my ATC s.
If in doubt, contact Townshend. I speculatively emailed them and bought a pair. IIRC I liaised with a chap calked John then ordered them with Sue Townshend direct.
Don’t worry about them wpbbling.
Thanks BigAl I have exchanged a few emails with John and he informed me they would ship with the correct load cells. My main concern is the stability.
It seems the general consensus is that they are worth it?
@PeterR of this parish uses Podiums under his PMC Fact12s as did Dunc iirc, and the PMC’s have, to me, a very small footprint. I don’t think my speakers are any less stable than sans Podiums. After all, the Podiums are designed to wobble.
They certainly improved the Usher/135 system sound in my small room, and I simply continued using them. The ATC’s are a completely different sound to that set up, I don’t think you can go wrong with them tbh.
I use the Podiums under my my active 40’s, no wobbly issues and all nice and stable.
In my room they made a huge difference.

Why did you paint the Granite🤔
Better aesthetic integration, I bought cheap terrace tiles, the granite was grey and white
I watched a review online- alpha audio who used gaia with focals that they had. On listening to them with the scm40a’s they reckoned that they didn’t work that well. I’d be interested in hearing how you are getting on with them.
They worked well for me under 40’s and 50’s. Only moved on from them as I got a great used deal on the Townshend Podiums which I have to say are much better albeit at a considerable cost new.
Had the deal not come up I would have stuck with Gaia’s
Gary
Hi Gary, thanks for the reply. Top luck on getting the podium’s cheap(er). If you don’t mind me asking, what do the gaia’s bring to the party over the spikes?
Regards
Leo
The upsides were control, bass and a more cohesive sound, the downsides were they were a bit faffy and need to regularly adjust them as they moved around a little bit and they raise the listening height so a little bit more effort on positioning (I had to change my listening chair to a slightly higher one! but still worthwhile v spikes.
They are quite expensive so a good dealer should let you try them
Gary
Having had Gaia’s with the carpet discs and Podiums, with PMC Twenty5 and ATC SCM40A speakers. I would strongly recommend a home demonstration. I find the Gaia’s did very little with the PMC’s, but with the Podiums, a very noticeable change. The ATC’s with Podiums, did seem to rob them of their drive and excitement, or you could say too much control.
As always, you pays your money and makes your choice.
Thanks for the info. I can get them direct from Townshend with a return policy if they don’t work for me.
Certainly worth a try.
Thanks for the info guys, podiums are out for me (space issues) but i might look into the gaias.
