I’m seriously bitten by the Fuji GFX bug. Compared to my Canon R5ii, this is lots more fun, compared to my Leica M, the colours are much nicer. Even though, objectively, the 30mm and 45mm lenses aren’t anything special, in terms of sharpness.
I liked the Fuji Velvia setting -especially for plant photography. I got some of my favourite all time plant photos on a very 'umble Fuji . I am slightly envious of that particular Fuji
My cataracts and an electronic viewfinder were not compatible with either Fuji or Canon , so I moved back to Canon SLR , and found it is easy to buy near new for remarkably low prices . Now have Canon 6Dmk11 , a camera I would not have dreamed of two years ago, plus a Canon 4000 for travel .
Giving serious thought to a Canon 100 Macro or 135 F2 for about half price on originally
Some stunning EF glass now available at very good prices, so it’s not all bad.
Edit: Sorry, just realised that is more or less exactly what you are saying!
I have lots of X kit which I simply don’t use now, I am considering what to swap it for and fancied some MF…we shall see
And some of it is in LCE Civic Centre!!
Sadly, I feel that have already reduced the kids’ IHT burden enough this month, what with Xmas, and a nice shiny pair of Sennheiser 800S cans.
However 2025 is nearly here…………

Have my eye on a 135 F2 … will wait until after Christmas
A Fleet Street favourite ![]()
Really good guys in there. Have bought a couple of new cameras there, as well as good glassware over the years.
I’m thinking of flower photography
In which case, I think the slightly shorter macro might be your man.
LCE civic centre was always a favourite when i lived on S’ton ( Totton actually- sorry). Always bought something. In those days Minolta was the weapon of choice, having bought my alpha 7700i ( bought in Osaka- circa 1992?)
I confess that they’ve had a good deal of my money, going back nearly 50 years ![]()
Starting with a Canon FTbN in the late ‘70s (which I eventually gave to my sister) and a Vivitar 283 flash. I still have the 283…and it still works - but not on camera! I mount it on a hot-shoe flash trigger, using the vari-level controller.
Lovely colours there Ian, especially the first photo. In ye Olden Dayes, I tended towards Fuji color/chrome coz I always liked the “blues”.
I have been contemplating the Canon 100 mm Macro, but have had the 180mm L series Macro for a number of years. Not the quickest focus, but has produced some really nice photos.
@Christopher_M , I have two Macro lenses , a Sigma 150 2.8 and a Canon 2.5, I have always strongly desired the 135 as it is the ideal match to my Canon 200 2.8 , which is one of the best lenses I have ever had . (The best was a Zeiss 135 1.8 for Sony)
@ Suzywong , I loved the colours from Fuji , I loved the build of the camera and lens , problem was looking thru the viewfinder was often like looking through treacle
Fair enough, Ian. I have just looked again at Ken Rockwell’s review of the EF 135mm f/2. In case you haven’t seen it, he loves it.
I sometimes use the 200 mm Canon for flower photography and have had some good results , the F2 sounds brilliant . I’ve always wanted one
best wishes
Ian
PS Photo taken before I had set the clock on the new Canon
A no-brainer after deciding that I was not interested in any mirror-less camera. I have plenty of screens to look at as it is and I was not willing to lose the luxury of viewing through the lens. The best DSLR in terms of build and image quality, heavily discounted and still available new. Had to buy it while still offered.
I kept waiting (while using my D810) to see if Nikon will come up with an 880 version, perhaps with a 60 MP sensor, but it never happened. The D850 has a better AF as well as image quality but I am planning to keep the D810.
