Show Us Your Classic Ford Cars

Nice - you could try a Mustang….

That’s the issue of the American car industry. They created cars nobody wants.

Last Sunday morning at the local Ladysden cars and coffee meet there were a number of Classic Fords including this lovely Capri mk1 that reminded me of the one Mum had when I was a young boy;

@Gazza you should have lots of photos.

Unfortunately no cameras allowed in the design studio🥺

No I meant the ones you’ve had.

I’m afraid the new car buying market disagrees. Escort’s successor “Focus” is scheduled to end production. Fiesta already has. Fiesta has been replaced by Puma - a small SUV styled vehicle and the market is willing to pay more money for such vehicles.

Galaxy & S-Max we’re European designed, engineered and manufactured.

Gorgeous, the Mk1 is my favourite. My elder brother had a bright red one before I was old enough to drive - I was very jealous.

This was my last one.

Even Clarkson was moved to ask himself, “Why would you want anything more…?”

Just noticed I took this shot (on film) in 2013, having owned the car from new. So eight years old at that point. Kept it another three, before time caught up with it so would have to start spending a bit of cash. Kind of wish I had!

Yeah but I bet he doesn’t own one.

Probably not. Likes his Rangeys and very pleased with his bargain preowned F-Type it seems.

The Puma is decently successful but not much else is, and even it may not make money. It is very hard to make profit on small cars built in Europe, hence the demise of Fiesta.

They have lost market identity in my view. Used to be ‘value with a bit of flash’ but now? They have been slow with hybrids, and glacial with EVs. My brother was a senior Ford manager until a few years ago. He thinks have basically given up producing models for the European market. He reckons they want a European platform sharing partner but although VW have apparently shared some EV technology no one is really keen.

I love that Granny by the way

Pretty much spot on……the Kuga scrapes by based on the U.S escape and the Focus platform. They are to use the VW ev platform, but now realise it will not make money………looking at a U.S platform. The Explorer delayed by a year with no vehicles coming out of the Cologne Fiesta plant……lost their way?

They’ve kicked a bit of a goal here with the new(ish) Ranger ute it’s currently the biggest selling car in Aus.

The new Ford Explorer and “Capri” if that’s what they call it, are based on the VW MEB platform, same as the VW ID. The next VW Transporter is based off the Ford Transit.

It does certainly appear that they are giving up on Eu designed cars, the Transit (commercial vehicles) business however is practically a separate division in the company now and very successful.

Have the public given up on Fiestas and Focuses or have Ford given up on providing the public with the mainstay of Ford’s basis for business in UK and Europe - mainly small cars at an economical price point? I think the latter is the case, in part driven by increasing regulations on emissions etc. Thankfully not every manufacturer has given up but I really think EVs have made Ford and others lose their ways in the passenger car market.

I have tipped off my brother and sent him a screenshot. He loves it!

But not profitable to make, especially in European factories
