Finally found my old AKG K701. New ear pads and they’re good to go. Great, in fact. I love these things with jazz, so clear and spacious.

Look good, what are they?

Sennheiser HE-1

Just looked them up. Wow!
Did you get to listen to them?

Yes :grinning:

Better start saving.
Or digging a route into a local bank vault

They are definitely out of my budget but the listening experience- unforgettable :grinning:

They’re $85k here, they’d want to be damn good.

What dose are those as they look likr they might be better for my main headphone setup as its wider components. I see the Allo USB signature. How’s that doing?

Anyone remember the Sennheiser Orpheus…?

No, but they look impressive and fussy.

At the shop they told me that the price for every country is equal to €51.000 (-+) excl. VAT. Additional tax fee makes difference in price, most of the European countries its 21%

Well, I think that’s the first Sennheiser flagship model right ?

Yes, from the early '90s. It was ridiculously expensive, but pretty much the only option above and beyond the Stax Lambda Pros I had back then.

Luckily the planar technology has levelled the playing field to some extent with electrostatics since then I think… I understand planars don’t tend to have the ultimate resolution of electrostatics, but I understand they tend have a more natural frequency / dynamic response … ie can sound more musical… but not perhaps the instrument of choice in the science lab.

Hi… I have my NDX2 back now from Salisbury and have it back to transpirtvduties… and have been feeding via Hugo Original and Hugo 2… and shortly TT2.
I found by using a better quality (lower noise/jitter etc) Transport there wasn’t a huge difference in resolution, but the sound had more space around instruments and felt more flowing and the phones were more inclined to disappear and suprisingly the bass sounded more controlled on poorly eq’d or old 60s tape transfers. Because of the huge FR of the Empy it really benefits from that bass grip… also as the Empy’s run in, their balance and taughtness changes…nice :grinning:
I also found positioning of the cup and planars over the ears affected the tightness of bass resonance … this was unexpected but certainly worthwhile experimenting to get right on immersive listens… you know the ones where you forget you are listening to headphones and shut your eyes to focus on the music (just like I do at a classical or jazz concert) … and then you got startled as household or a voice of a family member certainly appears in the music you are listening to…

The boards are 34x24cm Asda product code 6498666 £4.50 each, perfect fit for the space I had. The Allo usbridge is a very worthwhile addition it also allowed me to move the Mac Mini to a different room.

Good to hear you have got your NDX2 back and are now using it with your Empyreans via a choice of 3 Chord DACS! I have found the same as you in that my PC vs the NDX2 doesn’t really give a huge difference in resolution, but the musicality (for lack of a better description) is clearly superior with the NDX2.
I will be interested to know the results of your comparision of the Hugo2 versus the Hugo TT. At the moment I am very happy with my NDX2 /Violectric V280 (direct) or via the Hugo 2. However, always interested in possible future upgrades!
FYI, my Empyreans now seem fully bedded in and they sound superb. I don’t know exactly how many hours I have used them for, but they are now nearly 3 months old so I guess circa 200 hours (90 days x 2 hours per day average). For those immersive listens they really are top dog for me - my best purchase of 2020 so far :grinning:.
Keep enjoying.
