Was toying with the idea of upgrading my Sennheiser hd660s to the beiyerdynamic amricon.
But then I decided just to get a HC to go into the headline.
That has made a huge difference to the sennheiser…a more tame table and deeper and more powerful bass…back to likeing the 660s a lot.

Finally found a pair of bluetooth IEMs that fit well and sound decent enough, those two factors being inextricably linked I am sure. I seem to have small ear canals and many IEMs, wired or otherwise, just don’t seal or fit me comfortably.

These are Grado GT220’s. I like their stuff (I have GS3000e headphones and GR10e wired IEMs) so I took a punt on these. As usual with Grado the packaging and subjective build quality is only so so but they sound pretty good, and with a warmer signature than the typical Grado ‘house’ sound that I know puts some people off. They are light and comfy too.

I’ve not compared to other bluetooth ‘buds’ but these will do me for the sort of use intended.

Here are my Focal Elegias, with Atlas Zeno balanced cable on Audioquest stand. Used to play Qobuz hi-res music through a

Astell & Kern SP1000M DAP.

Their specifications indicate that they are easy to drive. I’m thinking of getting these for my Uniti Atom. Are you still happy with them???

My music taste is mainly Acoustic with same Jazz and classic rock.

That’s a very expensive pair of headphones for an Atom! Have you thought about the Meze 99 Classics? Easy to drive and work really well with Atom

I will have a look at them

I used them with my Atom and now with Nova and they are great. At under £300 pounds they are very good value. The Meze Empyreans are around £2500 and really need a decent headphone amp

I was thinking the same but thought I could grow with them. The 99 Classics do seem to be popular on the forum.

I’ve got 99’s and Empyreans. The 99’s are very enjoyable when I need the closed back isolation.
Not as transparent or well balanced as the Empyreans, but still fun.

Hi Peter,
I LOVE my Empyreans still, and in fact I listen on headphones more than speakers these days. In terms of driving them, I have no direct experience of an Atom/Empyrean combination but would guess they will be fine. I currently use a Hugo 2 (with my PC as a source) or a Violectric V280 head amp (on my main system) - the Empyreans are fine with both of these.
One point to consider though is that the Empyreans are very revealing and so I would recommend an audition before buying as they might not match the Atom (?).
As @crispyduck and @MaxiMe suggested, I would consider the Meze 99’s also - a big saving on the Empyreans if you like them!
As an aside, I also still use from time to time my Senn HD650 headphones - another fine product IMHO.
Hope this helps a bit. Good luck with your purchase.
cheers

I currently have the P7’s I find them a little thin in the mid base.

I have a pair of P7’s. Ok for airplanes etc. Not that comfortable for me though (I can’t stand any clamping and have ears on the larger side). Got a pair of half price Beyerdynamic Amiron Home’s on Black Friday last year and can’t say enough good things about them, from comfort to sound. Worth checking out.

Same for me the clamping although better now is still jarring and I do get a hotspot at the top of my head, sounds good with the right source.

Brilliant, put up a post when you have had chance to review the 99’s with your Atom. Overall it is probably a better purchase than the Empyreans and will give you a more balanced system which I feel always pays dividends. Enjoy!
cheers

Yeah, will do. It just so happens that I have Monday off work so will have plenty of time to try them out.

What do you find the main difference between them?

I love my Elears - they are great with an upgraded AF Audio cable into either my SN2 or using my AudioQuest Dragonfly Cobalt.
