My Beyerdynamic Amiron closed back, complete with my new Michael Fidler Spartan 30 headphone amp. A great amp considering Michael is a one man band company. It just plays music, nothing added, nothing taken away…it’s gorgeous and not a lot of money.

I actually had to replace the sockets of my Hifiman 1000 SE because they became sensitive to plug movement. My plugs were upgraded Furutech which i think were too big for these weak sockets. In the end i decided to eliminate the sockets and their thin internal connection wire alltogether and directly soldered the cable wire. I have to say that the sound improved considerably.

Just picked up my new Stax SR-1 & SRm-270s. Have ordered a custom 5 Pin Din to two Rca out so I can connect to my Supernait 3 Av in/out so I can listen to my records. Have managed to work out how to connect directly to my Cd5si after finely figuring out that I need to program the Cd player to use the Two RCA instead of the din socket that are connected to the Stax Enigizer.

Never heard electrostatic headphones. They need a dedicated headphone amp right?

New headphone amp, headphones and cable.

Headamp - GS-X - Mini amp
Meze - 109 Pro headphones
Audio Art Cable - custom 20 foot cable

Love everything about these items, sounds great! Was going to buy much more expensive headphones but listened to these and decided that I wasn’t sure I needed much better.

I used to have STAX. I used the STAX dedicated headphone amp However that was long before I began my Naim journey. I found STAX to be better than any dynamic headphone except for the Focal Utopia.

I have dynamic- and planar magnetic headphones. Maybe I should audition electrostatic headphones. I actually thought they were much more expensive. But a Stax SR-X1 is actually very affordable.

Hi, is your headphone cable made by the art audio that makes valve amps?

Sorry it’s Audio Art Cable.

Further to my post further up, the Mcintosh mha200 is not microphonic. But the el cheapo Tesla valves that it comes with are. Both sets changed for RCA/Mullards and now quiet. Genuinely made a great amp even better.

Ok thanks.

My portable set up. A bit old school. I rip CDs to the iPod 80GB Classic in apple lossless format. Sounds excellent. The headphones are Grado SR325X and the headphones amp is Electric Avenue PAV battery powered. The amp is 15 years old and still working perfectly. Could be all the HiFi I need really it’s that enjoyable.

Hi Yes they need an electrostatic driver (amplifier) unit. To drive them. These ones I’ve just got are what you would probably call their entry level Hi Fi Earspeakers. Instead of playing thru your head like traditional headphones they tend to play the music like you have real speakers next to your ears. They sound fantastic.
