Very sorry to read about Alfie Steve. But you made the right decision.
Sadly there was no real choice, David. Even ‘If’ he survived the operation and ‘even if’ it had been a ‘success’ we were told by Jacgues the neurologist surgeon that ‘at best he would only be 25%’ for the rest of his life with tremendous mobility issues requiring a wheelchair for his hind legs, double incontinence, loss of his doggie dignity and no real quality of life. All this was to the backdrop of a young dog maxed out on painkillers but still in total distress for hours overnight at the hospital.
It won’t help you, but I do know exactly what you are going through. A few years ago one of our five year old cats suddenly developed a weird pulmonary problem and two days later we had to agree to let him go. The specialist hospital spent £4K investigating with no discernible outcome and phoned us to say he was suddenly too distressed even to wait half an hour while we drove there to say goodbye to him.
You never forget, but the hurt does dull with time.
Posting this doggy here (as per my Avatar), in the right thread…
Not mine - belongs to my ex -
He’s just a pup… Type JRT.
Zhukov leading us up the “Scenic trail” in Glenariff Forest park this morning.
Mull of Kintyre was just visible in that mess of cloud on the horizon.
Willy.
The pup is gorgeous and tbh is probably steal both.
What breed is the pup, looks a like a blue cattle dog.
So sad to hear this.
Yup, Peri the pup is a Blue Healer. Now 2 months old.
Great dogs I’m very jealous.
Mrs Houdini does exactly the same, asleep in the Conservatory in the morning and on a bed upstairs in the evening.
Badger had a day out in Swindon, whilst I went up to town. Plenty of new smells, and what I’ve been told is a Crane in the background.
My condolences, Steve
On the North Downs near West Horsley, Surrey. My favourite dog walking area Fergus has located all the trees that retain water at their bases and takes a refreshing slurp frequently! He’s 13 1/2. So our walks have slowed down but we still manage an hour or so. He loves the winter and struggles in summertime, on frosty mornings he’s like a puppy!
I used to live there when I was a kid. Lots of nice quiet narrow country roads to ride your bike around too. But these days there will be a lot more traffic!
It’s a beautiful area acres and acres of ancient woodland, you can still see the fallen trees from the 87 storm. Masses of cyclists, I find the hills a bit too steep now so cycle on flatter terrain it is very popular with club cyclists, motorised traffic not too bad.
I think her lawyer would say that the evidence is pure speculation
Probably a none to subtle way of asking for a pillow of her own😂
