Thanks, it’s early days yet the current heatwave here isn’t helping but at least we have a tiled kitchen floor which is comparatively cool, it doesn’t help that we took the full length curtains down , because he was swinging on them!

Only just catching up so I missed this. I’m so sorry to hear your news Richard. It’s very hard and takes a long time to accept when one loses a doggie who has been a companion for so many years.

It’s just over three months since I rescued Thom. Today marks the day that he managed to climb all four flights of stairs. Over these months he has adopted Badger’s sleeping mats and leather armchair, and has found his safe space (on top of the trap door to the wine cellar). However, he is still people and camera shy, but he’s off the lead in the fields and woods with reasonable recall and he’s good with other dogs (there are two other collies in the village).

It does take time, we’ve had Marlon for 18 months and Im just feeling that he’s ours now. I love recuse dogs.

Agree with you about taking on rescue companion animals. The PPs, from a position of total contempt and disinterest in me, have become very loving felines. They took longer to accept me than I did them, and taking them in is one of the best decisions I have made. My experience with them shows that with time and patience, it is possible to socialise totally feral cats past the accepted limit of around 8 weeks. My two lived in a barn until 12 weeks or so, then they had 3 weeks in the shelter, where they hid from the staff. Giving an animal a chance at a better and more comfortable life is very rewarding.

When i rescued Bollino from a family via a shelter, he was circa 12 months old. It’ now 15 years with us now. Not many chance that he could live so long if he stayed there, where he was evidently more neglected, having to manage a dozen of cats living n a small home.
