Magnus usually leaves though the secret passage beside the gate after he’s noshed a big freebie saucer of grub, but today it’s far too hot and he didn’t quite make it before flopping down and out for a snooze, all under the watchful eye of Disa.

That’s a good “secret passage” there, I assume it’s deliberate.
We tried to incorporate hedgehog holes in our fences, but the neighbours blocked ‘em up. Sad! No hedgehogs for months.
However the foxes simply dug under the fences

I noticed there have been warnings of blue green algae in this hot weather on the norfolk broads and other areas. Be careful with your dogs as it is very poisonous to them.

A timely warning indeed. We lost Parsley, a Dachsund, at 16 weeks old to that. Heartbreaking.
Yes, we almost lost Twig to the blue-green algae some years back. He has always liked to drink “wild water”, I guess a habit he picked up when he was living as a stray. I’d noticed that one of the ponds here had that weird oily bright green film on top in places and so had tried to prevent access. However, Twig had been outside and had shunned the many bowls of water I had placed there and found his way to the pond and had obviously drunk from it. He was violently sick and with diarrhoea at the same time. I rushed him to the vet (just in the nick of time) and they purged him and kept him in overnight. The vet told me to prepare for the worst, but that he would stay up and check on him and then let me know first thing in the morning. By some miracle he pulled through and began to recover. Tough dog.

They love putrefaction smell and taste. Every time Rosy find “something rottening” she eat it. And then she has that kind of grin……lactic bacteria a go go……

We’re lucky enough to have a park where the dog gets a run off the lead, he’s generally quite good but he is a scavanger and I’m always worried he’ll find something he shouldn’t.

Just an update on young Winston who is only about a year old. He was not improving so spent yesterday at the vet where he had a scan, bloods and tissue samples taken. Some of the tests we will have to wait for, but the conclusion seems to be Feline infectious peritonitis, which is pretty serious. Antiviral meds on order, hopefully he will respond

Daughter, just told me it is actually his first birthday today, not fair, two bruised front legs, his abdomen shaved either side, not feeling great…….feeling sorry for himself. Hope the meds turn up next week asap.
