The PPs were due their parasite treatment yesterday. Normally, this is a fraught experience for them and me as they seem to know it is coming, so it is difficult to catch at least one of them and sometimes both, to hold them as I put on the treatment. This time, both were perfectly behaved and let me hold them and put the treatment on without more than a half-hearted struggle. I was somewhat surprised by this. Maybe they remembered that last time it was done, they got a double ration of treats and within half an hour were coming up for strokes; previously, they would eye me suspiciously for hours, if not days, if I got closer than a couple of metres of them.

For some years we have had a couple of Wood Pigeons return to nest in our plum tree. Every year they rebuild their nest in the exact same spot in the tree.
However we had to have it cut back at the ‘wrong’ time of year recently and despite my instructions the tree surgeon didn’t cut around the nest and it disappeared.
Cue some very unhappy and despondent birds, who nonetheless kept searching for their lost home, and presumably eggs. Very sad to watch, I mean we’re not short of them round here but these were like wildlife ‘pets’.
Well, we have seen the pair flying back and forth recently and rather than rebuild their nest in what they now see as dangerous territory, Renee and Renata (named so as they sing to each other from the terrace fence up to the nest) have instead re-established themselves high up and in the depths of our Chinese Palm. Clearly they didn’t want to leave us. Or the cats. Welcome back. (I think a bit of egg inspecting or turning going on in 2nd pic.)

I remember when a Woody nest in a tree that spanned the boundary of my neighbour’s garden and the next door house was blown out and down to the ground on a windy day. That was complete with two very startled chicks. We managed to get it back up in the tree, with occupants and then zip tied it so it was secure. The chicks fledged and it remained in use for many years. Much later, a guy came to trim it and he was amazed to tell us that Pigeons had managed to zip tie their nest into a tree

Marlon’s lucky enough to have the whole park to roam off leash, nobody cares as long as they’re under control. He runs with his friends and sniffs, swim in the river and sniffs and generally room free and sniff. He gets two walks a day. Thankfully he does respond to our requests however he does think the command to come is a suggestion and often gets distracted he does eventually return.
