This one, I was about to post it when I saw you mentioned it:

Had a Rega nd7 fitted to my P6 about three months ago by my local dealer - Moorgate Acoustics in Sheffield. It replaces an Ortofon 2mr Bronze which is another low rider. Not had any issues and am thoroughly impressed by its sound thus far.

Using a deck like the Avid, with rigid clamping takes all worries about warped records out of the equation

Does the clamp work for dish warps too?

Ditto for me, but with record weight and outer ring.

Yes I always felt the clamp only met half the potential problem with dished/warped records.
The outer ring finishes the job :+1:
But I’ve neither

Yes it does. If you look closely at the photo you will see that the clamp is a unique “2-stage” affair with two “Wheels/cogs”. Tightening the top cog fixes the clamp to the spindle and the record to the platter. Then tightening the second (lower) cog flattens out the record on the platter with the platter and spindle/bearing housing designed to facilitate this process and take out all warps. The lower decks in the avid range have a single stage clamp, which whilst it works at reducing noise is not as good at flattening the record and reducing warps.

Sounds good :+1:

My Vertere DG1 was back at Vertere HQ after I clumsily go it out of whack. Whilst there I get them to fit a new AudioTechnica VMN760SLC. Only had about 5hrs on it so far but very good. Always been a fan of AT carts but never used their MM carts before.

Hi
Fab cart I’ve got one as well.
I find no great downgrade from my MC and the serviceability is great too.
Mine has a TrigB body on it for three point mount to my Ekos SE/1
Available from Cymbiosis.
There is a new stylus upgrade for that just released to give it a Boron Cantilever.
Part no.
AT-VMN60xSL
I have one on order. :+1:

That’s good to know Skeptikal, I’ve been using a 2M Black for a while, which when set up spot on was fantastic, but was a bugger to get it spot on. Hence I thought I’d try the AT as I am a fan. :+1:t2:

I’ve always really liked AT carts they are no nonsense and consistent.
Previously Ortofon then AT then Linn now AT
I did move to linn for a while but it’s brought back my gut enjoyment going AT again.
I’m looking forward to the new Stylus with Boron cantilever just announced.

And…? Was also on my list

After reading so much about these after-market DENON DL-103 body caps, I decided to try an experiment.

As I am just too much of a sausage-fingers to risk “shelling” the DENON plastic casing, I decided instead to try some serious dampening - directly on the casing itself. :joy:

I placed three self-adhesive 3M Silicone Bumper Feet on the DENON casing - strategically located, of course!
[Actually, there was really nowhere else to put them! ! ]

It took all of 5-minutes to get them straight and readjust the VTF to allow for the additional 1g of total head-weight.

I was worried that the silicone might suck the life out of the signal - and let’s face it, the DENON DL-103R does not have the world’s most extended top-end anyway. Knowing I could rip-off the silicone warts in a heartbeat if things went south, I proceeded with scepticism.

Expectation bias was low…

WOW! It sounds superb! The best it has ever sounded!

There is a cavernous amount of space to the imaging now presented. The whole image just feels wide open! The interesting part of this experiment is that the tops seem to be more extended than ever!

That was unexpected.

Many will think that it is just the extra 1g of head-weight, but I think it is more than that. I think I’m getting a taste of what these big-ass body-caps deliver.

Perhaps its the silicone itself? It is, after all, one of the world’s greatest dampening agents. Who knows?

Anyways, I’m going to camp here for a good long while.

Picture of my Avid Sequel SP demo with a Ortofon Bronze Quintet. I have a deposit on the turntable now (it sounded amazing btw).

Any experience with the Bronze quintet vs. the black quintet or perhaps a Hana SL?
