I was thinking of making that joke! More thunderstorms forecast here for today and tomorrow. Still, with so much work going on in the house, I wouldn’t be able to listen to it anyway.

That was extremely lucky Clive - I had to wait over a year on my dealer’s waiting list before one became available and he got that from Loud and Clear so it had quite a long journey to make before it ended up in The Cotswolds. Worth the wait though - fabulous arm. What’s the cartridge and have you deployed a lifting device?

The cartridge is a Kandid (I did the bundled deal with the Karousel). No, I haven’t gone for the Tiger Paw or Cymbiosis arm lifts. I’m not keen on having a hole drilled in the Keel. However, I can see the obvious benefits of an arm lift, not least being the ability to play 7” and 10” records.

The ARO/Kandid is a fantastic combination Clive, along with the karousel .

I have the tiger paw arm lifter, my dealer in Sydney carried out “the operation “

It’s great for keeping everything steady. Wouldn’t be without it

People have commented on just about everything but your fabulous plinth. I recognised it immediately as Wenge, a non-endangered tropical hardwood, before I checked your Profile.

I have recently had a Wenge plinth (made by Solid Sounds in Yorkshire) fitted to my own LP12, and it looks fabulous. (So much so that I am thinking of having Wenge wooden stands made for my stacked Quad ESL57s.) But that will take some faffing about , so we shall see.

Bevo, there seem to be two possible armlifts for the ARO: the Tiger Paw and a remodelled (Audio Origin?) one by Cymbiosis. (Naim’s own contraption has long since disappeared.)

Did you do any comparative checking before plumping for the Tiger Paw one?

No I didn’t graham

The Tiger Paw I purchased before they went belly up. From memory after that Peter came along with his alternative to fill the gap left

I’m really happy with the Tiger Paw, works really well

I’m a huge fan of the ARO. I have the Ekos SE on my other LP12 Klimax (with Kandid)

If I had to choose I’d be stumped to tell you the truth

So thats an Ekos SE…? A black arm, with a silver headshell…?

Most pictures on the web show either an all black arm, or an all silver one - or a silver arm with a black headshell (probably an Ittok then…).

Interesting.

Didn’t know the Ekos SE came in black ?

Is it not an Ekos 2 with silver head ?

I can’t see on image

Unfortunately the user has hidden his profile, so it’s not possible to check there. If someone is willing to show photographs of their stereo equipment, why would they not be willing to list it in their profile and make that visible?

It’s simply an old Ekos 1 or 2 and they’ve removed the black coating from the headshell.
Zoom in the hi Rez picture it’s obvious.

It looks awful and you can see the abrasion.

Perhaps it was done in the misguided belief that removing the black coating would make it sound better

I guess there could have been some damage to the finish of the headshell, but this seems like an extreme measure, if so Linn could probably have refurbished it

Sorry, I dont know what this means…

Over time, if the user has changed carts many times, then the coating can wear away where the screws mate with the headshell slots. I had this with my previous black Ekos, Linn said its to be expected and doesnt affect performance.

I cant see that would be reason to completely remove the finish from the whole headshell though

Just a further thought…I would be concerned as to how the arm was gripped/secured whilst sanded or blasted and the possible damage to the bearings
