I’m listening to R3 via internet radio at the moment , it is very good .

Given that you are listening via your iPhone and Mac would a little Dragonfly or ifi headphone dac/amp be an uplift ?

Best wishes

Ian

You may well be right, Ian, and thanks for the suggestion, but I’m hoping to be away from the hellhole shortly. It would not be good for me to do anything that might make my stay any more comfortable.

Love the photo- and the three letter alliteration!

Does anyone know where I would go to get some of that ‘green paper’ to clean the stylus? I have had an old piece of it for so long now that the sunlight has turned it pink!

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the paper is manufactured by 3M and is available from good hobby shops. Different colours of it represent different grades of the course and green is the one that Linn chose.

Thank you for that, Douglas. There are a number of art shops in Brighton, so I’ll have a look. Do you know what it’s actually made for? (Not cleaning your stylus, I imagine.)

I’m guessing it would be for very fine sanding.

It’s called lapping paper. For polishing glass I think. I’ve got sheets of it gathering dust. It’s the green stuff. You are welcome to some foc if we can work out a way to get it to you. (And I’m not breaking forum rules :grimacing:).

Thank you, Paul, for the info and the kind offer.

I will get in touch soon, if I may, when I am back home.

Are you any closer to getting home @anon70766008? I’m sure you are desperate to get home for many reasons, but I bet you can’t wait to get that TKR filing your ears.

FWIW I just use this method now by dropping the the stylus onto the tacky stuff every couple of albums and brushing with the stylus brush. I lost the green paper years ago and never replaced it.

Apologies for showing a Rega in a Sondek chat.

I’m sure your dealer will send you a new piece if you ask them. They will doubtless have copious amounts of it.

Both Audio Affair and Origin Live list it on their websites for purchase, c. £10 a pop.

No, sadly, but I have secreted a stout teaspoon in my room, and I shall start digging the escape tunnel soon.

I have actually forgotten what good audio replay sounds like, having lived off the sound from the various in-room TVs for a year now!

The New Year’s Day concert from Vienna yesterday sounded pretty dire, but that may have been more the fault of Herr Frankly-Worse-Than-Most.

I now have visions of you shaking the soil out of your trouser leg whilst walking the grounds.

Have you considered adding a pair of headphones to whatever you use to browse the forum and employ something like the Qobuz app to stream music? I did this over Christmas while away visiting and while nowhere near as good as the main system, a modest pair of headphones will work well off of a tablet or phone to give a more satisfying result.

Best wishes that you make it home safely and soon.

Thanks, Iain. I’ve avoided bringing in anything that would make my confinement more pleasant, as I just want to get out.

They have to release me soon, at which point the next fight becomes whether I’m permitted to go home. (There has been talk of my moving away, to be closer to family, which I’ve refused even to discuss with them.)

Never, ever allow social workers to meddle in your life!

Anyway, moving on…
