Lovely well balanced system you have there. MK1 Kans are so musical, I have a pair but currently using Linn Sara MK1 and enjoying the extra punch and bass they bring to the party. Great to hear of another classic Linn speaker user.
What i like about my trusty old Linn mat is the way the built in static detection device works so well at clearly showing me when the record needs a clean though the RCM.
Other makes of turntable mat are totally unable to perform this important function ![]()
Taken the opportunity this Sat to give my LP12 and Aro a bit of a tune-up. Cleaned the belt and platter, given the Aro pivot a twizzle and re-levelled. Also a general clean of deck surfaces. A noticeable tightening-up of the sound.
Spot the difference!

Last Friday I drove to Rearsby to collect my LP12 from @Cymbiosis, having had the plinth, top plate and base board changed. I went from Chris Harban Wenge plinth, Tangerine Karmen top plate, Linn Trampolin (Urika) base and Linn outer platter to Tangerine Stiletto plinth/top plate, Tangerine Skorpion base and Revolver outer platter.
I said I’d never change the Harban plinth, which I really loved; it had beautiful grain and was built by a master craftsman. But that was until I’d heard the Stiletto! I’ve long been aware of the importance of the joint between the plinth and the top plate, especially near the motor, and I thought this was about as good as could be achieved between the Harban plinth and the Tangerine Karmen. With the Stiletto, of course, this joint is removed altogether since plinth and top plate are machined as one from a single billet of aluminium alloy. I now wonder if that’s why it sounds so much better?
Whatever the reason, this is the finest turntable I’ve ever heard. With the flutes, it too is a thing of great beauty. And boy, does it sound good!
Congrats Clive. A truly superb deck!
You would say that! ![]()
Utterly lovely. Now it looks like a Sondek!

I wouldn’t if I didn’t truly believe it!
Stunning looking turntable, the flutes look great.
Beautiful! Just when I thought I was maxed out with my beautiful LP12 Klimax you come along and burst by bubble!
Rob (@Cohen1263) has said the same.
I am interested in changing out what is the original plinth at some point.
So Stiletto plinth and top plate and Skorpion base and platter is one to go for?
Here that Ekstatik is much better than Kandid as well! Have you heard it?
So how much would those upgrades set me back? If you don’t mind me asking?
Clive, the new plinth is great! Love the flutes. Like your “former self”, I can’t see ever changing my Woodsong plinth -shown below; also built by Peter- but I have to concede that the Stiletto looks fab.
If you need to ask, it’s usually too much ![]()

I reckon £7k.
I’ve seen the prices already Mike! So I kind of know. Maybe worth doing.
Clive’s Linn ORGASMIK……
I’ve not heard Ekstatik, but I have heard that it’s not best in an Aro and I couldn’t bring myself to switch to an Ekos just to accommodate that cartridge.
That has to be one of the best from the master craftsman. It’s a shame he’s stopped making plinths for the LP12.
@Clive isn’t saying how much he paid ![]()
You can look up the price list on the Cymbiosis web site.
